I felt such a wide range of emotions as I read Yolk. Mary H. K. Choi captured so many of the nuances of the relationships with your body, mind, sister, partners, and parents, and it all felt so complete to me. Incredible coming of age and family story. This is exactly what it’s like to have a sister.

I didn’t know what to expect of this book. The bright yellow cover caught my eye on an endcap in Barnes and Noble, and I wanted something to read. I’m so glad I bought it. Although Jayne can be a very frustrating character to follow, I think everyone can relate on some level to her insecurity and her feeling of being lost and without a place in the world. Everyone has their shit in this book and the author reveals it all with such matter-of -factness, all in due time. The book truly reveals that what we really need in life are people to lean on, and it tells that story in such a hard-hitting and relatable way. It ends with the assurance that everything will be okay, simply because you aren’t as alone as you thought you were.
