I really like the beginning but the plot kind of lost my interest once at the palace. I was not the biggest fan of the empress as the villain and kept feeling like the prince was actual going to turn on the mc and was working with his mother but nope. Ending was interesting at least. I’m undecided on if I’ll continue the series.

A cool story based off of real historical figures in Chinese history and accurate representations of different classes. The theory and idea of alchemy was pretty interesting as well.

Good narrator. Interesting world and magic. Complex family dynamics and navigating class systems. Love the imperfect and not for the greater good main character. Good read.
