I've followed Sarah Rees Brennan online for quite some time now and was always enthralled with her work, so it was with great anticipation that I picked up this story.
I found the base idea of the story compelling. The concept of two seemingly unconnected people sharing their minds kept me interested through the somewhat dull first act.
Unlike most of Sarah's writing, I found this book to be far more dull with only glimpses of the usual fanciful hilarity that normally shone through in her writings. This may have something to do with the lack of magic for the first half of the story.
About halfway through though, the story quickly picked up pace and I found myself completely enthralled and unable to put it down until it's unexpected conclusion.
The only other glaring point I would have to say is that some of the characters *pointed look at the Montgomery's* seem ridiculous. Even more so than Kami herself. That fixation on sleep and the repeated mentions of it come across as strange and disconcerting instead of charming.

The skill, effort and sheer brilliance of Unspoken is very much remarkable and if you would throw the outstanding set of characters on the cauldron all together it would be BAMF a engrossing tale of the Lynburn return with a witty sense of humor and an irresistible eerie romance.
The Lynburn Legacy has a fascinating story line that is very well developed that will consistently have you laughing at your feet, so if you’re looking for something great to read. This is the perfect book for you.
Well geez. Break my heart a little more with that ending, why don't you? On a brighter note, I really loved the cast of characters and Kami is one of my new favorite heroines. This book just resonated with me: the writing style, the characters, the story, everything. Eagerly anticipating the sequel.
Oh boy.
I was extremely skeptical in the beginning. Who is this person forcing me into these awkward quirky convos.
Well those conversations definitely grew on me to the point of embarrassingly laughing out loud continuously.
Kami's good shit. I think she gets it from her father.
The characters were engaging and humorous.
The plot was actually not what I expected, but surprisingly I enjoyed it. This is not a Harry Potter and I am so grateful for that.
I was heart broken by the last page.

THE ENDING. AAHGJHSGDFJ VIOLENT RAGE. STUPID PERFECT CLIFFY.
I FREAKING HATE CLIFFHANGERS.
This book had a ridiculous ending! Nothing good happened!!!
Sigh. Anyway, it was a beautiful, witty read. I love creepy British manors with mysteries attached and I love Kami. She was just so spunky, witty and a little wierd!
Jared was nice when he wasn't being creepy and an asshole.
I am looking forward to the next book.

Rees Brennan lets her love for gothic romances and lady sleuths shine through in Unspoken, and I heartily approve of the combination. Kami and her friends are a delight (particularly Angela), and I enjoyed their antics as they tried to uncover the mysteries around the Lynburn family. Most of the teenage characters in the book were a lot of fun, but I’ll be the first to admit that I cared very little for the adults.
The humor in Unspoken left me with mixed feelings. Rees Brennan’s characters have a lot of witty banter, but the humor didn’t often strike a chord with me. (I felt much the same about her Demon’s Lexicon series, which is a shame, as I really enjoy the author’s tumblr.) The ending was not very satisfying for me for several spoiler-y reasons, but I truly enjoyed the last-minute emotional sucker-punching that has had most of Rees Brennan’s fans in a tizzy since the book came out.
Recommendation: Get it soon, if gothics and mind-reading romances are your thing. If not, borrow it someday, because the Lynburn Legacy trilogy has a lot of promise. I have high hopes for the second book, which comes out later this year.
