After enjoying the previous two books in this series (where the mains were interesting and had a lot of growth) I just could not get into this story. Greer annoyed me from the start for some reason, possibly the way she is described? The way she seemed boring in the previous books? The cover model also makes it seem like Greer is passive.

I put this down, meant to get back to it and never have (as I write this review in 2023). I realize some people think this is the best one of the series!

the really annoying thing about this one is that everything i've thought about kate clayborn's writing remains true: she has a lovely style and a great way with characters, who are real and convey a great depth to them. i loved the attention she gives to their flaws, their struggles, challenges, their triumphs and determination. i love the way the books make the emotional growth a huge and intrinsic part and how that's paired with the plot. i still think this is all done well here.

but it's ultimately, for a romance really, a book about two people who i just didn't buy together and didn't enjoy reading about much at all. i wasn't excited about this -- this is prob obvs bc i read the other 2 close together and hadn't finished the trilogy yet -- but i wanted to give it a fair try. i didn't like it! i knew i wouldn't and i was right!

but with all that said, i can see other people being into this and if they like the characters and stuff it'll click for them. there's nothing wrong. its just not for me and it couldn't grab my attention. i was bored.

This was really good! I think I liked it maybe just slightly more than the first one, but slightly less than the second one. But the whole series is so great, it's hard to rank them. I liked Greer and Alex a lot, and the issues they had to work through. Alex panic attacks were interesting, and helped make him a bit more sympathetic than how he came off in the first book (even though I did like him there, too). I loved that he started going to a therapist right from the start, and it was made very clear that Greer wasn't "fixing" him (even if she did help), and it wasn't that he needed one issue solved or anything, like… humans are complex, and he's working on the panic attacks and making progress, but everything can't be solved overnight. And he does come to be able to handle calming himself down from a panic attack on his own, which is big. I really enjoyed everything to do with that.

I liked Greer and Alex together a lot, they were super sweet, and I was glad it was Alex who came to the realization that he could stay in one location and be okay, and that he WANTED to stay, and didn't want to leave Greer and loved her, rather than her getting her hopes up and him leaving and disappointing her. I liked that she ended up being more hesitant in the end because of his job and his inability to stay in one place.

I also really liked Kit and Alex here, and how she's come to like… get what he needs and not push him too much. And the Zoe/Greer dynamic was especially great considering Kit was off for at least half the book on her honeymoon, and Greer wouldn't feel super comfortable telling her everything about Alex anyways. I liked how pushy Zoe was about the two of them and highlighting how Greer was just making excuses. And I liked how Alex helped Greer with the photography. And Greer's family!!! They were really lovely, if a bit overbearing/suffocating. Basically, this book was really good, and I'm eager to read more by Kate Clayborn in the future.
