Cutting Your Teeth is a fast paced story that features paranormal characters and wonderfully written relationships. The issues that Ezra has to tackle in this book were quite the intriguing read and the plot point was well-written. The delivery of information to both Ezra and the reader was well-spaced throughout the story.

The characters in this book were flawed but those who were to be lovable were definitely lovable and a certain antgonistic character still had understandable motives. I loved that though one antagonist while not redeemable was understandable while the other was firmly rooted in a villainous position with selfish motives and horrible methods.

The romance between Ezra and Killian could have been developed a bit more but what we got was still enjoyable to read. I do have to say the angsty elements of the relationship were possibly the most well-developed part.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I really enjoyed this one. It was a pretty textbook vampire romance with good twist and likable characters.

Ezra has been on the run from his family for years. Trading in locations and identities mean nothing to him anymore. He hasn’t had a real place to belong since he left his twin sister behind. On the night he’s going to disappear again for good he meets a man named Killian Hale who he’s up against in his boxing match.

Another story I was waiting for them to just KISS. I know why Kil didn’t want to get attached to Ezra and he’s a dummy but he’s a caring dummy so I forgive him. Honestly when they were flirting while they were boxing I couldn’t help but think that was hot. I need more of that.

My favorite character was Marigold she seemed so cool and badass. She seemed to go with the flow but also have a big heart and was trusting. I loved their little vampire community they had going. Vampire therapy group and little parties for everyone to hang out. It was super cute.

The fact this is book 1 is interesting and I’m interested to see what other adventures this little supernatural gang can get up to.

Great debut book!

I’ve read a LOT amount of queer vampire stories, but this is one of my favorites.

First of all, the book cover slaps. Amazing design.

Second, I loved the “protagonist on the run” angle and the mystery around it. There was always enough story to keep me captivated, in fact I couldn’t put the book down.

Third, Ezra, Killian, and Marigold are all precious characters and I love them.

Fourth, the gothic elements are so cool. I hope we see more horror in the future.

Lastly, I normally go for spicier books, but the slow burn in this was just so satisfying, and I look forward to it building more in the next book. All in all, I really liked it!

It isn’t 5 stars because I feel like Killian falling hard for Ezra wasn’t explained as well as it could’ve been; the pacing of their relationship wasn’t as smooth as it could be. The pacing with the villains was a bit choppy as well. But I think this is just the author getting into their groove as a writer, and will smooth out as they continue writing.

This is what would have happened if Neil Josten (from The Foxhole Court / AFTG) had been bitten by a vampire and thrust into their problems.

Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of the audiobook.
On that note, it took me a while to get into the audiobook as the narrator sounded a little robotic at first... But I got used to it and ended up enjoying it.

Cutting Your Teeth was a really solid read. Characters you root for, a story that holds itself together very well, a sweet romance, and a found family aspect that makes your heart melt.
The vampirism aspect isn't particularly heavy which was okay to me but I wouldn't have minded a little more gritty or fantastical elements.

I always find it a little odd that creatures like vampires, who have lived for decades or even centuries, kind of act like normal people. To me they would be different in some sense, otherworldly almost. I didn't really get that in this story but once again, that's very much a personal preference.
