DID NOT FINISH: 4%

The teen angst and redundant writing got on my nerves quickly.

Fredrik Backman does it again. This damn book made me cry so many times and I absolutely loved it. I have to buy a physical copy because it has so many beautiful lines I want to highlight.

My Friends is about a famous painting, and the friendships that inspired it. It's about nostalgia and grief, and how nothing in your life will ever feel like the friendships you had as a teenager. It is very successful at evoking those feelings!

At some points the narrative felt very manipulative. Or perhaps manipulated would be a better word, manipulated by the author to create more suspense. One half of the narrative is a man, Ted, telling the story of his childhood to a teenage girl, and I doubt he would tell it the way the narrative does. I doubt he would purposely mislead (to an almost comical point) Louisa to believe that his loved ones were dead when they were alive and well! The author also has a tragic run-on sentence habit.
