I quite enjoyed this one, not so much a spy novel as a detective one. I preferred the previous book to this one.

I am looking forward to reading the masterpiece that is next in the series.

Slightly disappointed. The book was a little like John le Carre meets Agatha Christie. Clever plot - building suspense very well. George Smiley too! I did like the book, honestly!

Note to self: Don't assume you've unravelled the plot even if the author wants you to think you did it. Especially when there are 10 more pages left.

A 3.5 rounded up to a 4. Another solid George Smiley novel by le Carre, albeit without his usual Circus compatriots (or as usual as it would be for someone used to Karla!verse Smiley, who usually had Peter Guillam to partner up with). A good murder mystery / thriller story that was also an amazingly quick read. I happily own the Smiley book which follows this one - I'm sure I'll be reading it before too long.
