Hazel is described as being akin to Brene Brown, but let's be real, Brene Brown would NEVER get sloppy drunk and spill a bunch of emotionally unintelligent drivel on a near stranger at her best friend's wedding. I don't know that I've read a more dislikeable FMC.  On top of that, she was half-Japanese which was mentioned multiple times per chapter in the beginning and her only nod to being Japanese was her "best asset," her long black hair. As someone who reads a lot of books by BIPOC authors, I just found this so uncomfortable, given that the author has a very Caucasian cartoon avatar as their headshot. The note from the author afterwards said she wrote this starting around Thanksgiving to be released by Valentine's Day ... and it READS like it was written in a rush.

If this wasn't an ARC, I likely would've DNFd.

Hazel and Peter met at their best friends' weddings, and they "hated each other." At least that's Hazel view of the situation, but to be fair, I would be grumpy too if a stranger started talking nonsense about their life.
A few weeks later, Hazel gets a new neighbor, who turns out to be Peter. Once again, their interaction is a disaster, so she decided to ignore him. She didn't leave her house for a week. Childish behavior, in my opinion.
When a snow storm hits town, Hazel is not prepared for it. So she ended up knocking her neighbor's door.
During the days that they spent together, they seemed to start getting along, which led to Peter kissing Hazel on Valentine Day which also was her last day staying at his house.
Thanks to their friends, they are "force" to spend time together once again, this time on their daily walks.
Hazel and Peter finally became friends in Hazel's eyes, and everything was fine until Peter's mom visited him unannounced. Due to the visit and his past trauma, Peter had a panic attack, and Hazel called 911. They spent a night in the hospital, and that's the moment where Hazel learns that Peter thinks they are more than friends.
The story ends with Peter sending Hazel gifts and asking her to re-do Valentines Day.
 ******
I couldn't feel the love between the characters because Hazel spent almost all book repeating that they "hated each other." Another problem I had with Hazel is that she assumed everything about Peter with just one conversation, and then she is shocked when her assumptions are wrong.
I like the plot, but I Hazel is too annoying, and that's the reason I didn't give the book more than 2 stars.

3.25 stars!! 💘

hazel and peter start off at a wedding and, to be honest, they're not hitting it off. peter's good-looking but has a resting grump face, and hazel's trying to crack that hard exterior 😭.

guess what? peter ends up being her new neighbor, and despite hazel trying to be all friendly, he's still in grump mode 😅. then, unexpectedly, snowstorm hits, and hazel's forced to shack up with peter. classic setup, right? but, surprise surprise, they start bonding 👀

at first, i was frustrated with these two 😣. grumpy guys and persistent girls, you know the type. but they both come around, realizing there's more to each other than meets the eye. it's a closed-door romance, which means it's not spilling all the steamy details but still gets cozy 🤭

now, my only gripe is, it's a valentine's book, right? so, i expected more v-day stuff. but nope, it's mostly about two people snowed in until valentine's day with a sprinkle of holiday vibes 😕. could've used a bit more heart-shaped chocolate or something 😅

overall, though, it's a quick, cute, and cozy read. perfect for a chill day or when you're in the mood for some low-key romance. give it a shot if you're up for that! 💘

After first meeting Peter at her best friend's wedding, Hazel is anything but smitten. In fact, she hates Peter albeit being impeccably groomed and hot as hell! Fast forward to their next encounter when Hazel finds out he is her new neighbor. Hazel ends up having to spend a few days with him after being unexpectedly snowed in with no power, but luckily Peter has a generator. Can the generator thaw his frosty heart as well?

Even though I was frustrated with Peter for the first half of this book, I just knew he would come around eventually. This was a very sweet, heartfelt rom-com that is a perfect for readers who love holiday romance books.

Many thanks to NetGalley, BookBuzz.net and Alana Highbury for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I went into this book very open-minded. I have not read a Valentine-themed book. The book starts slowly with an array of different characters. But there is a reason for it. It builds to the overall story. There are some key characters you have to meet to understand the flow of the story. I was a little frustrated with the main character at first, but I grew to like her as the story went on. As a Valentine's book, I expected more regarding the holiday, but it was really about two people snowed in up until Valentine's Day. There were some themes here and there. Overall, it is a cute romance that builds between the two characters. It's an enemies-to-lovers vibe. This book can be read at any time of the year.
