Quite enjoyable

Not the usual type of book I read but I have been entertained by Adam since the start of Mythbusters. He brings his passion and enthusiasm into everything he does and this carries through into the things he produces, this book is no exception.

What a wonderful experience. Honestly wasn't sure if this would be more memoir or manual. It's definitely more how-to and I love it. Savage talks though moments in his personal journey as lessons learned, and how it's transferable/applicable to all kinds of creatives. He explains why the pain-in-the-ass parts are so important through personal incidents. He has not just knowledge but wisdom and experience. It's not about some specific shiny tool, though he does mention a few, it's about the right preparations, taking it in steps in the right mindset. I love his emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience, how he expands that to a collaborative element throughout the book, sharing insights from fellow makers. There are funny anecdotes and observations and an overall attitude of warmth and encouragement. I don't know how much would be considered beginner/common sense for makers, I think it counts more as perennially useful wisdom, though I'll admit my perspective is that of the maker status I would personally term of 'sporadic hobby class' in fiber arts and baking. Regardless, I think anyone could find value in it. ♥️

Adam Savage is fun to listen to. He gives a great motivational speech at the beginning of this audio and it makes you want to jump right into whatever project you've had on the back burner for a while. I wasn't sure what exactly to expect with this book. It is kind of a hybrid of biography mixed with making ideas and tips and a few life lessons thrown in for good measure. He occasionally brings in other people's ideas (Nick Offerman for example) as well. I found most of it helpful. His stories about making lists of lists of lists resonated with me for sure. The only part I found a bit hard to focus on was the chapter about different kinds of fasteners and glues. It was factual but since my craft of choice involves yarn, it was a bit harder to be interested in that level of detail about glues. Enjoyable and a fun audio since the author reads it himself. Check it out if you need some inspiration to pick up your crafting projects.
