First off, the title is just so delightful.

I've let my thoughts on the book get too old for a proper review. I enjoyed it. It's hard to put my finger on exactly what's so endearing about the series. I think a big part of it is the variety of perspectives. It's easy to relate to so many of the characters.

This book is essentially a continuation of [b:Written in Red|15711341|Written in Red (The Others, #1)|Anne Bishop|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1411439502l/15711341._SY75_.jpg|21378102], so it didn’t feel as if the plot had much substance. It was gratifying in how it added to the first book, but it wouldn’t hold up on its own. However, it seems that seeds have been planted for new storylines in subsequent books. Book 3 will be an indicator of whether the author picks up a new thread or whether the current plot will diffuse into chaos.

Very well written. Love the characters. I know this will be better the next time around. :)

Reread 6/20/20 - Not sure this one stands up to a reread. I still love the characters but it didn't have me antsy to see what happened. Seeing how the world was built a little at a time though is still really well done.

Reread 9/14/21 - reading with a friend this time around and still love this book. I actually liked it maybe a little more this time. Looking forward to the next one!

Otro buen libro de Anne Bishop. Después de leer Written y Red y Murder of Crows, me he comprado casi toda la bibliografía de esta autora, a ver si el resto también me gustan tanto.

3.5 Stars...didn't enjoy this as much as I did the first book, but still a solid sequel. Would have liked to see more of Meg and the growth she makes as she continues to adjust to her new world. A few too many new characters detracted from this.

I love how much the characters in this series read.

DOWN WITH THE BLOODY BIG HEAD!

3.5

I’m glad you start to get to know more of the characters. The exciting parts are a little underwhelming but I’m still enjoying this series.

Good story better balance with the social changes being completely worked through.

Bishop continues to amaze me. Brilliant!

I really enjoy this series. The author has created a very enjoyable blend of intrigue, adventure, sinister plots, and strangely, optimistic humor. I love the trials and tribulations as the Others get to know their human pack and vice versa. Can't wait for the next one!

2.14.16 - Re-read (Whispersync)

Still just as amazing as the first time. Perhaps even a little better, given the narration for the series is excellent.

I got so engrossed in the book that I wanted to growl at people because I had to put it aside this weekend to attend a social engagement. Perhaps my inner wolf is showing?

In this second book, Ms. Bishop does a brilliant job of further fleshing out her world. We get to know some tertiary characters better as Meg's "human pack" continues to bond with her and we get to meet some new characters that interact with the Others. However, Meg and Simon remain the focus of the story. Their contrasting perspectives bring a sense of wonder to the series as they feel out their place with one another and learn to accept their differences.

The phrase wondrous and terrible is used quite a bit in the story, and I think it also captures a lot about the series. There is this clash of innocence and violence that works. It is hard to explain. I suggest you read the series and see for yourself. :)
