A solid homage to Holmes and Watson, especially if Holmes had been a manipulative prick.

This book was very interestingly written as it is almost like a book within a book as it follows Horowitz and Hawthorn solving the murders but also told by Horowitz who talks about writing the book all the time however is this actually the book... I love the plot twists as they make sense and are coherent but still come as a shock. The use of actors in a murder mystery makes it very interesting as you don't know if it is the true them or not. Every time I put the book down I had the facts of the mystery trying to draw lines to each other in my brain but not managing and then Hawthorn doing it at the end is so satisfying an end. Hawthorn himself is a very unlikable character as he has many faults but I found myself vouching for him so the tossing of a mind could be satisfied and I love that trope in a book as it makes you self reflect and makes it interesting rather than a perfect character than can be clique. All in all very much enjoyed the book and intend to read more crime.
