I had a few problems with this book in the first half but I ended up really loving it. I adored the world it was so intricate and awesome. I really enjoyed the various relationships. In the beginning of the book I had trouble with the female relationships, they were very toxic and unhealthy. That definitely changed, I ended up really loving how strong the friendship was throughout the book. Not only healthy female friendships, but male, and even animals. The romance in no way overshadowed the plot and was weighted equally with friendship. Aurora develops a relationship with A PEGASUS! It's so cool and their connection was genuine and heart-warming. Due to the massive improvement this book showed in the second half, I can see the second book being spectacular I can't wait for it! I really wanted to like this book more. The idea behind the story was wonderful, which is why I bought it. However, the writing needed a lot of help and it was really predictable. I felt like the important parts were rushed, and a lot of time spend on internal strife that was repetitive. It also drove me nuts that the lead kept ignoring everyone around her and making really bad decisions. Not the best of character development.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
If there's one thing positive coming from me in regards to The Last of the Firedrakes, at least it has a spine. Cheesy pun intended.

Farah's debut has the bare bones of a novel. Her writing is vivid and there's definitely evidence the world is meticulously planned. The main character, Aurora, is a character who's curious and inquisitive – she wants to learn as much as she can about Avalonia from its residents from the moment she enters the world, which brings back my point of a well-built fantasy world. The residents of Avalonia are colorful – we have an all-too-serious professor, a cheery "old" fairy, a jolly duke. There's high school drama, but it lasts for a chapter or two and isn't a problem.

But lots of things just fell short.

The writing feels too amateur – I'm just not feeling it. It's just not good enough.

There's this evil queen who may or may not be pulling the actual strings who wants to get rid of Aurora. There's this archmage who's on the hunt for this book that can enable him to control demons or some other evil creature, and probably the one pulling the strings in the queen's ears.

Then there's Aurora.

Aurora is an absolute damsel in distress. I don't know if she cried much in her past – Farah brings us from high school drama to Avalonia early on. Aurora doesn't do much fighting – she's saved every single time while doing almost nothing. Every time, it's the same mysterious dude named Rafe who Aurora can't stop thinking about constantly and falls "in love" with.

At that point, I don't buy it. I don't buy it AT ALL.

I don't know how Rafe even knows where she is at the right time – is he just stalking her to make sure she doesn't get into trouble? Is it just a coincidence, because of all the times she's rescued, it's beginning to not be a coincidence and just makes me think he's probably stalking her while making illegitimate excuses that the character falls for. Aurora falls into a tight snitch and seconds or minutes later, Rafe is coming to the rescue.

Have I mentioned Aurora's in love with the bleeping guy? Yeah... she's falling in love with him after all he did was come to her rescue – without her lifting a finger – after so many bleeping times?

I think the only thing I achieved from reading The Last of the Firedrakes is finding the new crown holder for Damsel in Distress. Katy Swartz just passed on the crown to Aurora.

I think Aurora is going to have that crown for a very long time.

Thank you ebooksforreview for giving me the chance to read this book

It's actually 2.5 stars, and I thought that was kind of fair.

I think it would be nice to start off with the things I liked just to be nice.

I think the world and politics was pretty interesting. In my opinion, I think it was well made, it wasn't as if Oohmerbhoy was trying to force facts down your throat, but took the good time letting us find out (good for beginners in fantasy).

I guess I kind of liked the plot. Especially towards the ending and "twists", I thought it really started getting good.

And then there were the parts I didn't like

I had to restrain myself from throwing my phone against the wall. I wasn't the biggest fan of the writing tbh. I feel like it took me a while to read this book because of so. Ughhwiskwpdkxkckcod if you look at the little comments I have made along my "journey" through this book, I think you'd have a small idea of how much I didn't like it. I felt like a lot of things were too cheesy, and I don't think it seems realistic looking at the circumstances of the relationships between the characters

I hated Aurora so much. tbh I thought she had the mind of a 12-14 year old, and then I find out that she's 16 and I almost went into a rage. IM SORRY. Are sixteen year olds really that cringeworthy? I mean I don't think I'm THAT bad.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the dialogue either tbh. If I hated Aurora's voice, I ended up hating everyone else due to the cheesiness and nonsense they were saying.

I think that the plot started to get a lot better and I almost gave this book 3 stars because of so. I just wish that the writing and Aurora and the dialogue would get better. Nonetheless, I think I'll keep a lookout for the rest of the books when they come out. I want to see where the story goes.

Solid Read

I originally read this years ago on Wattpad and it’s good to read the published version years later. The story from what I remember is a bit different now but it still has the charm I remember. The characters are mildly infuriating at times but I’m keeping the fact that they are reckless teenagers in mind.

I got a free ecopy of this from NetGalley.

This book was interesting.

I will start off with what I liked. All in all it was a good story. Great suspense. Very easy to follow which I like in a Fantasy novel where things can become confusing with all the different worlds.

The world that is created is fantastic and the story captivating.

I also loved some of the wisdom and quotes from this book. I’ll share my favorite one (page 74)

“When difficulties come, we must see them as what they are – opportunities and a new path to discover your potential. How will you ever know the magnitude of courage you are capable of if you’ve never experienced the hopelessness of fear?”

That’s such a good quote!

My only bit of criticism for this book is that there are some similarities to Harry Potter. For example she lives with her aunt, uncle and girl cousin, all of whom don’t like her. She doesn’t know her real parents. She was left in an alley. That’s pretty much it.

I would definitely recommend this book to others.

I received a copy through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

I was very excited to get a copy! This was one I was very excited to read.
We meet a fiery heroine, who isn't just content to just accept what everyone around her thinks she should be.
She stands up for herself, what she believes in, is brave and sometimes reckless in her need to help others.
Thrown into a land she knows nothing about, having to learn about her own history, about a land she's destined to rule. And that's she's not nearly as ordinary as she thinks she is.

A land with magic, faeries, mages, different kingdoms, a wicked queen, a vivid, well thought out world that we get to delve into. (these are my favorite kinds of stories with elaborate worlds.)

And did I mention there's also a handsome rakish outlaw?

I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to seeing what comes next for Princess Aurora.

Nope, can't finish this... Too clichéd. I know that this was a hit on Wattpad, but if you want to then publish it properly and take my money, then give it a couple more drafting rounds and work with an editor to smooth it out.

ARC From NetGalley

The story begins when Aurora gets taken away from the only family she's known and placed in a land she's never dreamed could be real. Now, she finds out about her birth parents, and her past, and she's on the run for her life. Things get worse when she has no idea who to trust, or how to continue on know that she knows the truth.

This book starts off very interesting, and it ends still slightly interesting. I loved the world that the author created. It was unique and wonderful. But what made me dislike the book so much were the characters. I could not stand the heroine. She was whiny, and afraid throughout most of the story, and while that can be understandable, she just wasn't a very likable character.

And then the hero of the story was another problem to me. I hated the way he was so good to Aurora, then when we find out things about him and why they can't actually be together just made me mad. Especially when Aurora has a way to make it so they can be together, but then doesn't because she doesn't tell the truth.

I just hated both main characters, and it was hard to find the rest of the story enjoyable because of them.

Other wise I liked the actually plot line, and world building.
