This book started off well enough but unfortunately it is somewhat uneven even from the start and the last third of the book is quite weak. The parts that are good are quite good which is what keeps the book from getting a lower rating. There are quite a bit of action as well interesting characters and interactions between both humans and aliens.

The book is very US-centric. Not only US-centric but centric to certain parts of the United States. Sometimes this manifests itself in rather ridiculous ways. Marines in cowboy boots and hats for example? That is just silly.

In the later parts of the book it wonders out in dreamland quite a bit which starts to drag down the book rather quickly. Some interesting plot elements are introduced and some that downright sucks. What really annoyed me though was that we really never come to any conclusion. [Spoiler warning] By the end of the book we simply jump 20 years ahead and everyone says that war is over and “bye bye”. What the heck? It is as if the author started to run out of time or even get bored writing about two thirds into the book.
