I have goosebumps. I’ll write a review once I’ve had a chance to properly process the whirlwind that this book was. But safe to say book 3 emotionally scarred me.. But really so did book 1. And also book 2. So in conclusion Hanya Yanagihara has done it again - my heart hurts and I’m crying.

This is a book that feels like 3 different books in one. I can see a lot of divided opinions on this since they all have very different feels. There’s a historical fiction, futuristic dystopian and more modern element. They’re all very good in my opinion, but I liked the first section the best. I became very emotionally connected to the characters in the first one. The third took me awhile to warm up but I began to really enjoy it as it went on. It was after a pandemic had raged through New York. With book 2, it was okay but it didn’t capture me the same way. Particularly with the letter portion. It took place in 1993 in NY with the backdrop of the aids pandemic.

I read over 400 pages, and it took me 12 days just to get this far. This was tedious,I really tried and I had to give up. I’m calling it a finish because… 400 pages.

I liked the stories well enough... Not sure I understood the divide between the first two stories and the last (though there is a hint of one showing up in the storyteller at least), but got into the rhythm soon enough. Not sure I understand why the book is constructed this way.
