This book is so real and that makes it even more heart wrenching. First off the more this book went on the more irritated I was with literally every single adult ! I could have reached in and smacked some of them . Claudia is such a sweetheart and I wanted to give her a hug. The reality of how possible this book could be is a heartbreaking honesty on how the system fails people every single day especially POC .

I was told this was going to be tear-jerker when I added it to this months TBR and they were not wrong. I really "enjoyed" this book. Now I will say, I was annoyed and upset by a lot of things that happened. I was also annoyed by some of the YA/Middle Grade topics (since I dont typically like those categories of books for those reason). This is also probably a good part to say check trigger warnings if you need them.

But overall the book was so compelling that things that usually annoyed me didn't take away from the overall experience of the book. Also I felt like they weren't a big part of the book so they were easy to ignore.

Now regarding the overall topic and the ending, well I was and was NOT expecting what I got. And I was very impressed by that and imagine that has a huge part in my 5 star rating. Also the fact that this book made me cry also. I find emotional books usually get higher ratings from me in general, because I always like when a book makes me feel something.

I do think I need to read this book again at some point to really see how well it was or was not done, specifically to see if it all actually makes sense when you analyze it. That being said on a first read I think this is an amazing book and it touches on some really important and meaningful topics.

I understand why it was sectioned out the way it is, but it can get confusing at times. Only reason it’s not a full 5 stars!
