This book was heavy and it evoked an emotion out of me that I never felt before reading a book. I cried because I understood her grief and everything and it was extremely graphic. I felt heavy and sad after it. I don’t think I’ll ever pick this book back up too read but it really was good.

Wow. Read through the night. Couldn’t put it down. Have taken out all the author’s other books from the library. Horrible story that needed to be told with the bravest child at the center of it all. This is a book  that can change you, if that’s something you’re willing to allow.

Oh man. Tiffany D. Jackson is such a stellar author. She just writes these gut wrenching stories and then when you’re least expecting it, she throws another curve ball at you. I’m just completely speechless. I was not expecting the twist at the end of this book and it completely floored me. My students in my home room can vouch for this as they heard me yell “WHAAAAAT??!!!!!!” when I read the big reveal towards the end of the book.

The only reason I bumped the score down to 4.5 instead of the full five stars is just because I’m still unsure on a few things in regards to the plot and how each chapter was set up. I spent a lot of my time wondering about when this book was happening (and IYKYK). But the rest of the story and the characters were so compelling and so well written that I think this is my new favorite TDJ book.

I highly recommend reading this but definitely check trigger warnings.

Well, that was not at all what I expected! This is not my favorite book by Jackson, mostly because of the back and forth time structure that was somewhat difficult to follow. I think the plot was shocking, revolting, and honest and the characters were gritty and real. This story would be a good read for hesitant teen readers because of its’ short chapters and engaging content.

what a page-turner! I was on the verge of tears on several occasions, this book has such an important message. Claudia's self-centeredness really annoyed me at times, but then again my thoughts were similar to hers when I was 14 so I can't really complain. The book had the potential to be 5 stars, but it could have been a tad shorter and there were two tropes I didn't like:
the romantic subplot with Michael (it was okay-ish) and the losing memory stuff. Explains the time skips, but every time the ending is explained by memory loss, it automatically takes away some creativity points.
