Broke. My. Heart. This is one of those books where you have a pretty strong idea of what is going to happen in the first few chapters and you spend the rest of the book bracing for the moment it happens? This was me reading Monday's Not Coming.
This story devastatingly demonstrates what happens when a community is disconnected and everyone "minds their own business". Claudia fought and fought and FOUGHT for everyone to believe that her best friend was missing, and the adults were so caught up in either ignoring what was right in front of their faces or thinking someone else would handle it. Two children were murdered and no one found them for months and months! Claudia's mental breakdown after the discovery of the bodies was jarring (as those experiences usually are) and I was a bit disoriented trying to figure out where we were in the timeline.

I usually appreciate dual timelines, but the two in this book were incredibly close, so at times it was difficult differentiating between before and after the discovery.

Strong themes of child abuse, poverty, gentrification, and failing social services are pervasive throughout this story. PLEASE review the content warnings!

A must read! A book that has a big, but sad plot twist. It will have you emotionally hurt for days. Shines a light on the state's lack of care for the children the system, but told from the perspective of a child which was refreshing.

This book should be marketed as a horror/thriller.

Monday is missing and Claudia, her best friend, is the only one who is missing her. Claudia keeps looking for Monday. She tries to get every adult she knows to find out where her friend is.

I could not put this book down. I loved Claudia and the other characters. I missed Monday with her, and The ending....

Content warning: There is a ton of lesbophobia in here as the other kids at Claudia's school bully her and Monday. It was really hard to read
.

I will hear no critique of it. For me, out was another amazing book from Tiffany D Jackson

For all the missing children, and for all the children who aren't believed, this story sings to the vulnerability and easy dismissal of children and their experiences that the adults just fail.

Wow was that depressing. I cried which I wasn’t really expecting, but I really got to know the characters and felt for them. I do have to say I thought it was weird how it was written and how Claudia was written, but it makes sense when a certain reveal happens. This is such an important story, but very dark. I also really like Claudia as a main character and how strong she was. I really enjoyed the friendships and the family and how great of support system Claudia had. I do have to say it was also kind of confusing how it was written because I kept forgetting what timeline we were in.

As I read this book, I was genuinely confused with the timing of events because of the "The Before" and "The After" sequences. The story became muddled together which lead me to believe that Claudia was an unreliable narrator. Once the plot twist was revealed, the timing of events started to make a lot more sense to me which makes me want to reread the book! However, one thing that I found to be disturbing was the fact that Claudia's parents met when her mother was 19 years old and her father was 29 years old. I thought this was extremely unnecessary and they could've been written with a more appropriate age range. Overall, I thought the story was written cohesively in a way that left many readers, including myself, at a loss for words.

A beautiful, emotional read. The writing is so captivating and authentic to a 13 year old’s voice. Highly recommend checking the trigger warnings in advance before deciding to read.
