Dakota Cassidy is back again with her funny characters and loud mouth Nina. She finally meets her match with Greg the vampire and has to learn to adapt to her new state. Its a funny story, if not a little annoying at times, but overall, fun.

Original Review 2010:

What I Loved: Nina, Nina, Nina! She is my favorite foul-mouthed, say it like it is character. She really is someone who just doesn't accept something till you whack her over the head with facts. Normally these characters get on my nerves but Nina is so well written that about the time you get to the "ugh shut up" point, she grows on you. Oh and I love Greg too! He was the perfect HEA for her :)

What I Liked: Wanda, Marty, Lou, and Svetlanna! What can I say, I think it is the friendship, family, and love that really gel these books together. You can just tell how much Wanda, Marty, and Nina really care for each other. Even when they are uber-mad at each other.

What was So-So/Didn't Like: Not a darn thing!

Who I would recommend this too: I would recommend this to anyone who likes to laugh. However, if you are sensitive to bad language probably not the book for you. Kind of like Christopher Moore books---you have to like the "off-beat" humor and not give a flip about language to enjoy. If you do however give these books a chance, I guarantee your cheeks will hurt from grinning. They are fantastic :)

New Thoughts 2014:

Overall Thoughts: This was even better the 2nd time around. I forgot how much I loved Nina and Greg's love story. It made me laugh, cry, and wish I knew Nina person :)

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Meredith Mitchell / Length: 10 hrs and 35 mins

Meredith grew on me as a narrator and now I really like her. She seemed a lot more comfortable in this one and even though Nina is still not "Jersey" enough, I still enjoyed the narration :)

Final Thought: Can't wait to revisit the next one again :)

This is the only one out of this series that I liked. I got through maybe 3 chapters of the third one and deleted it from my kindle. I tried loving the rest of this series but I just couldn't. Nina and her mouth was all I needed.

meh. I'm continuing with this series for two reasons - (1) I have several of them to read for audio review and (2) I've read newer series by this author that I REALLY enjoyed. Well and (3) it's not without potential.

The thing is, the humor feels so incredibly forced. Like, I know that the goal is to make me laugh at x point. I want to feel the humor, not the effort that brought me to the humor. But I've read books by Dakota Cassidy that just make me laugh, no effort felt. So knowing that these books are significantly older, I'm thinking that she just hadn't honed her craft as much yet in these earlier books and as the series progresses the humor will feel more authentic.

I like the characters a lot - I love stories that have a deep focus on friendship and this series definitely has that. The dynamic between the three friends is really enjoyable and I look forward to reading more of it. And the guys are pretty okay too. I hate the emphasis on swearing - either it's a big deal and you don't do it or it isn't and you do. But in these books they talk all the time about cussing, make up fake cuss words and it grinds on me (someone who has no problem with cussing at all).

This was the vampire book of the series - so far at least, there may be more - and I liked the twist CAssidy put on vampire lore. I don't love the ease with which someone becomes a vampire (it's even harder in Twilight and that's saying something) but besides that it was a fun twist.

The narration is enjoyable and I'm glad I have this series on audio - I think it's going to make a big difference in me getting through the rest of the books quickly :)

I was curious to read this one after the first one in hopes that with time her writing might have improved. I still found it lacking. It was funny and I would recommend it for a light, quick read in between some better/heavier books but only if you have nothing else you want to read. I gave it 2 stars because I did laugh through it.

2.5 really. Same formula as the first for the most part, only stuck with it for the few differences. Though I will try the 3rd because a) I already have it and b) the plot seems different enough from the getgo.

I enjoy this series but I feel like each book is the same story, just about a different character turning into a different supernatural creature.

If you enjoy fluffy supernatural romance, this book series is definitely for you.
