The God Is Not Willing: Book One of the Witness Trilogy: A Novel of the Malazan World
Steven Erikson

An excellent read, dare I say it was "AWESOME!" I loved the characters, especially Rant and Damisk! I really can't wait for the next in the series!
Maybe I just read this on the right day, but I really enjoyed it. Definitely a "classic Erikson slow burn" in that it took me a couple hundred pages to get into it (maybe just because there were 20+ new characters to track)...I wound up taking a very long break between page 75 or so and reading the other 400 today, which did not help!
Anyway, I guess I'm just onboard for Erikson's vision of ethical Malazan Marines or something. It's an interesting twist on a medieval army standoff situation in the middle of an impending climate disaster and refuge crisis - and the way that (should at least) change the calculus of everything, all in the midst of his usual "no my magic doesn't make sense and yes, now it makes even less sense...while also at times making perfect sense!"
Looking forward to the next book!
