I thought "Girl of Flesh and Metal" by Alicia Ellis was especially intriguing and certainly gave Black Mirror vibes. It also had a thought-provoking exploration of technology's impact on health and science. Part mystery, part Sci-Fi, with a touch of romantic interest made it an overall enjoyable read. However, the portrayal of the main character's animosity towards her artificial arm raises concerns about potential negative stereotypes or stigmatization of individuals using prosthetics in real life. A solid 3.5 but not quite a 4 star rating from me. I think the continuation of the series is very interesting and worth a read as well.

Girl of Flesh and Metal revolves around the life of high school student Lena Hayes.

Everything seemed "perfect" in Lena Hayes life, well aside from her parents being in charge of CyberCorp a tech company that went against everything she stood for and a boyfriend who never seemed to fully listen to her but had always been there for her. But she was managing to live with that. Until a car accident where she lost her left arm and her boyfriend or should I say ex-boyfriend winds up in a coma. Suddenly, she wakes up to find that her once flesh and bone arm is gone and has been replaced by everything she loathes and her choice to live an AI free life has been ripped away from her. How can she expect others in her life to be okay with her metal arm when it was created by the very company she hates? As she tries to gain the confidence to talk to her friends about these changes and hope for acceptance, suddenly she finds out that maybe the arm isn't fully under her control and now there is sleepwalking that seems to line up with murders happening near her.

I really enjoyed the realistic feelings of what it would be like to one day have your arm and one day not have it and to struggle not only to deal with the lose but accept your new body part. I sympathized with Lena and appreciated getting to walk through her thoughts when she viewed all options she could have had if given a choice.

The one piece that didn't feel as natural to me was the love interest. Personally, I felt like it would have been best to stay as a platonic friendship as the pace of things felt a bit off for me. But the character was still likeable.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and very much intend to read the rest of the books in the series.

Really cool concept, the mystery actually grabbed me which is REALLY rare with mysteries.

The rampant abelism of the first ten chapters did give me some pause though.

I am excited for book two!

We are the destroyers of this world

Much thanks to the author for sending me an e-arc ❤

Girl of Flesh and Metal follows the story of Lena Hayes,a supporter of the anti-tech community who after a car accident has her arm replaced by a metal one. Soon, an event will turn Lena's life upside down and have her unable to sleep at night.

I'll try to keep this review as short as possible:
The writing and the pacing was okay. The characters were well-written,you could definitely see them as real people.

What I didn't like was the love interest. I felt it was unnecessary and would rather have the love interest as Lena's friend. Also, I didn't really like that reveal at the end. Don't know why,it just didn't satisfy me.

Not sure how this book will have a sequel (this is a series, right?)and how the story will be continued, but I hope it'll get better and better!
