A short book, only a touch over 80 pages, it was a quick read. It was different than The Princess Bride, it didn't have the same wit, but it was very enjoyable, with a host of quirky and memorable characters; Lugi, Laura, John the Bastard, etc.
It felt very much like a fable or a fairy tale, told in the quick way that felt like the author had sat down and told you the story his father used to tell him, or something like that. It was quite lovely, and worth the read.

I picked this up on a whim browsing the library the day everything closed down due to covid19, I was there just in time to just grab a couple of books so I did not know much nor expect much of this one, but I was pleasantly surprised by this strange book that peaked my interest just enough to take it with me. The fantastical tale about how the gondoliers of Venice stopped singing. I enjoyed the way the book was written: as a research paper, yet also as a fairytale - The «magical numbers» such as 3 and 7 kept popping up in different ways, just as in fairytales. Luigi’s story was told like a fable.

This was a short, unique and pleasant read. I enjoyed the writing, and the illustrations were well done.
