Really strong debut novel from James Logan. I found it to be a lot of fun, and at times reminiscent of a D&D campaign (in a good way). While you can tell it's a debut novel, it feels pretty polished and I am very much so looking forward to book two.

Good fantasy debut! Sometimes things fell into place a bit too conveniently and several times I just wanted to tell protagonist Lukan to maaaybe finally shut up. It is a wonder that several very non-patient people he talked to didn't kill him. But then there is Flea. Flea is an 11(?) year old street kid. Characters like that can easily get annoying quickly, but not Flea. She is capable and often wise beyond her years, forged through her life on the streets. But she is also clearly just a kid, often looking in wonder at the things they discover and the people they meet. And she is a good counter pole to Lukan. Loved her and the relationship these two form.

Already looking forward to the next installment
