like truly right at the middle of the road. the net core of this story is a good one. it maintains the adventurous elements of its predecessors, it centers the core four that the story originally introduced and that most folks fell in love with, and it provides folks with an opportunity to know them in a different space and alongside other central characters theyve loved previously (caspian). it also introduces a new element (eustace) when provides some differentiation and dramaaaaaaa. but then it keeps going. and going. and going. c.s. lewis has this dreadful penchant for exposition that isn't good. for deeply nuanced explorations of each facet of the world without consideration of what the reader would actually care about. paragraphs upon paragraphs of what is in the magic book, essays and solliquoies about food and drink and gathering items and nothing about action or interpersonal relationships. his character building is surface level as a result. the world is built too much and without consideration of what a world is full of -- PEOPLE! as a result I got real tired real fast and had to take frequent audiobook breaks to interrupt the monotony. the book really truly could have ended after eustace was turned back human. but it didn't. and that is its problem. 3 stars. fine. but needs work.
