Another novella, I read this because it's tacked onto the end of Bird Box.

I enjoyed the story line and did find it a little creepy but nothing overly scary.

Josh Malerman is so clever. He always tells a unique story.

3.5 stars, if I'm honest. I'm always a sucker for books about movies, and this was an ambiguous and enjoyable little romp about warring horror-film directors in the 60s—didn't particularly care for the ending, but I'm not sure how else it could have bowed out.

I think I liked it but it was a little boring sometimes.

Read this in paperback, not a kindle as this states. Electronic reading is just not for me.

This was dreadful... haven't a clue what it was all about! 😂

I wanted so much more of the story... I thought the overall concept of rivalry between two film directors, and the rising competition that leads to jealousy and madness, was very interesting. I also enjoyed the prospect of a discussion of competition and stolen ideas was very interesting. However, there was simply not enough of that. Instead I felt I was reading summaries and analyses of film scenes. I was quiet bored for most of the time.

I absolutely loved Bird Box by this author, even though horror is not my genre of choice. Unable to sleep a few nights ago, I was going through the kindle shorts and noticed this and on impulse just pressed the buy button. It definitely took me out of my comfort zone, but if this was a full-sized novel I don't think I would be able to finish it. If you're a fan of horror movies, this is a must read.

This came as a bonus story in my copy of Bird Box, and simply put, I loved it.

I couldn't decide between 3 and 4 stars, so let's call it 3.5.
I enjoyed reading this, and I appreciated the amount of thought put into it. The ending felt a predictable and a little anti-climactic, but this wasn't the kind of roller coaster of a book that I felt needed a crazy reveal or twist or something. The way it went was how I expected it to go, but that wasn't entirely a bad thing.
