2nd time reading:
I still really loved this, although this first book is a little slow, and is really just an introduction to the world and the characters. When I was reading this author's other series, The Weathermages of Mystral, I wondered if I was just in a really good mood when I read this series, because that one is really bad. And then when I read this, and love it so much, I wonder if I should give the other series another chance. How can an author write both a series that is one of my favorites, and a series that is so bad I can't even get through the second book? I don't understand it.

First Review:
This one started off kinda bad, and I wondered what the heck I was reading, but it got better and better throughout the book. This is the kind of fantasy I just really like, even of it is a bit cheesy. I ended up loving it, although the ending was way too abrupt. Luckily I can start book two soon, so no harm done.

Where is the plot!?! I enjoyed the world but the “plot” is basically an emotionally unavailable and immature man courting an innocent woman and planning a wedding? Honestly frustrated by this book I really wanted to like it but I needed more of the real plot of the Eld and things happening other than threats.

im not sure what i expected of this one, but i was a bit let down. you want magic? yep its got it. politics? yep, lots of politics. betreyal? yep? and sex. its written well... but it might as well have been labeled as a romance novel or akin to soft core porn. i wont pick up the next book, thats for sure. but thats because really... it isnt my type of thing.

This book did a lot of telling but no showing. Also repetitive and in need of an edit.

Middle of the road for me. Neither main character really drew me in but the world was interesting, if generic (except for the tairen thing).
