This is not usually the type of book I like: a domestic story where the couple is already established. But every time I read it I find myself captivated by Calla’s journey to adjust to life in Alaska. I also love the side characters (particularly everyone’s favourite curmudgeon Roy)

I will say that I did find myself irritated with Jonah a few times in this book. It felt like Calla was doing all the sacrificing and he wasn’t as sensitive as he could be about it. And his approach to Marie? Not a fan of how that was handled (colour me appropriately shocked that I ended up also loving Marie’s book. I was very convinced I would not after finishing this book). Jonah was also absent a lot here and I would have liked to see more scenes with them together

All in all, though, I really love this book and getting to see what a quiet life in Alaska could look like

I did not think that I would love the second book more than I already loved The Simple Wild, but I did.
I'm usually not so much a romance reader but this series just makes me happy. The characters are all so relatable and lovable. The setting in a small town in Alaska is perfect. Wild at Heart made me feel all warm inside while reading.
This book is beautifully written and the description of nature and the animals roaming around Calla's and Jonah's property was absolutely breathtaking!
Calla's and Jonah's relationship feels very real, adult and respectful. Things I often miss in romance novels. They are both trying to get accustomed to their new life together. Both are putting their own needs behind sometimes in order to make their partner happy, but in a healthy way. Making life work is hard sometimes, especially if you're living in a small Alaskan town.
I enjoyed all the new side characters. Some of them are not easy to get around with sometimes but they all have their heart at the right place. Whenever Calla or Jonah needed a helping hand they were there. Roy was definitely my highlight of the book.

This was everything I wanted in a sequel to The Simple Wild. It isn’t as great as book 1, that I love and cherish that book so much I think there’s no topping it in this series. But it’s incredible as a sequel and I’m just as eager to continue reading!

The story continues almost seamlessly from where book 1 ended, i.e. with Jonah standing at the front door of Calla's home in Toronto.
This part is all about the two of them figuring out their lives in Alaska - it does invovle some ... well set backs and facing ones fears (in the form of a goat), but Calla and Jonah are talking about things and sovling their problems as they grow closer together.

I really like this story. It's a nice, easy read for something in between that does not demand much from you and will leave you with a fuzzy feeling by the end of it.

This book was absolutely miserable to read. Especially the second half of it. It was filled with sadness and loneliness and feeling left out. It was not bad at all, and if you're in the mood for something emotional like that then it's actually amazing because Calla's feelings were written perfectly well, I cried more than once. But then again I was quite miserable and had to sit down just to think through my feelings after reading this. It was very engaging, though, so it's hard to put the book down.

This is the second book of a series and I personally don't even think of the first book as a strictly romance book, this one's even further from being a romance book! It has themes like family, community, grief, etc. but Calla and Jonah's relationship is kinda in the background. Of course Jonah spent more time in the air and Calla had to learn to be alone, gardening, cooking, being their own accountant, and socializing with other villagers. Like, this isn't a bad book but I wasn't here to read about these things. There's a villager who's kind of a busybody that intrudes upon other's business. She means well and I think it's pretty realistic. There's always that kind of people in a small town trying to keep the community together. But I can't help feeling annoyed whenever she comes in.

If you're looking for a steamy romance, this isn't it. There are a lot of scenes alluding to sex scenes but they're pretty much "behind closed doors". There are also problems within their relationship, obviously. Which is why I think this is quite a sad story overall. In conclusion, this is even less of a romance compared to the first book. Not a bad book per se, but not a romance, nor it is a lighthearted book.
