Apparently I read this book in 2013 and gave it 4 stars on goodreads. I do not remember this at all. I just finished the audio book and would not give it 4 stars today (2024). Today I would give it 2 stars, so I will average it out and call it 3.

I found this book to be really disjointed and hard to follow. This makes sense; King wrote this not originally as a novel, but as multiple separate short stories over the course of about a decade. I didn’t understand what was going on most of the time. If this was an author I was unfamiliar with, I likely would not have finished the whole book. But I have read enough stuff by King that I’ve loved that I’m going to continue the series and see how it goes.

The first 75% of this book is incredibly slow, but the last 25% really picks up and begins to get interesting.

What a horrible way to start a series. I could only get to page a 110 before I decided I didn't want to waste my tme with this book. I had heard before that this book wasn't as good as the actual series but... I was on page 110 an I still didn't know what the purpose of the character was, why he was following the black man or what the heck was going on with the dead people who weren't dead.
