3.5 out of 5 stars.
i wanted to give this 3/5 stars at first then towards the end of the book it got so much better n i did cry a lil bit cause of the farewell that happened there.i'd been reading this abt weeks but i kept on putting it down-it was quite dull n nothing much happened n it put me into a very fortnight reading slump then yesterday i was truly determined to finish this n yeahh i finally did.i adored the few last chapters,i understand that this is the first book so many things need to be explained n i got it.this book was quite dark(the monsters) n kinda gave me goosebumps once.i don't like how romance between emma n jacob works idk i dont find it necessary, prefer to be focus on friendships/fam more.bronwyn, olive n fiona are my queens love em.n ransom riggs is such a brilliant author how could he made stories by using peculiar photograps-maddd

Meh. Didn't finish before it was due back to the library. Didn't feel like it was a big loss to not finish, never really got sucked in.

Fast paced, but rather creepy. I was surprised at the horror elements in this book and would caution you to read it before letting your kids read it.

If you're tough, like most normal adults, I think you'll find it fun and interesting. I'll definitely read the next in the series.

did not like it. I thought it was nothing special, I could have been reading something way better instead of this waste of time.

Easy read, cool pictures, great quotes. I think I'm a bit too old to properly enjoy this, but I would have loved it as a teen. My main complaint is the relationship with Emma. If you know, you know.

Love the pictures, but story itself is not as interesting and for rather younger reader then myself.
