It was an interesting read about Trevor's life. I came to see just how eventful and downright tragic his life was over the years and was even more inspiring to see how his mother's influence prevented him from taking all that hurt and going down a dark path. I could never have imagined the amount of trauma this man has endured, yet still, manage to be the funny guy I knew him as before starting the book. There are of course some weak parts, specifically the poop chapter, but they are easily overshadowed by the stories involving Patricia Noah. She was by far the best part of the book and I was always looking forward to reading about her. In fact, if she were to write her own book or if Noah were to write a book for her I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I've generally avoided memoirs, but having seen this on so many bestseller lists, I decided to give it a go, and I am very glad I did. Trevor is very skilled in incorporating lightness into very difficult topics, as well as building tension. Early on in the book we find out that something happens to his mother, so by the last chapter about her life, I was absolutely dying to find out what happened and why. An aspect I didn't enjoy is the fact that he jumps around time periods and locations so much, so it was sometimes difficult for me to follow and understand the  timeline of events. The book is highly informative about the life during and immediately after apartheid, but it deals with some very very heavy stuff so make sure to read the content warnings.

Great autobiography, Trevor Noah is able to fit serious topics such as
abuse, attempted murder, sexual violence
as well being able to tell funny stories without derailing the tone of the book.

This book (along with 'A long Walk to Freedom') has given me a tremendous insight into (Post) Apartheid South Africa and I strongly recommend even if your not a fan of the author.

This book made me laugh, cry and reflect on my own life choices. This is the story of how Trevor Noah became the man he is today and the woman who raised him. I wish I could hug his mother! The story of Trevor Noah is one that feels close to home in many ways.
