SO YEAH...I re-read it cause I seem like I can't to move on from this series and I will keep doing this every time I got the chance to, it's my ROMAN EMPIRE, comfort zone, loving characters, lovely time giggling and kicking my feet over the sweetest words that come out from RIO, RYAN, ZANDERS, KAI and ISIAH.

⤿ Rating: ★★★★★

“We are rare. What we have is rare and I’m going to spend the rest of my life protecting it. “I love you, Hallie Hart. Spoken or unspoken, I’ve always loved you.”

From the moment I first encountered Mile High, I have eagerly anticipated the release of Rio’s book, and I must say, Liz has truly exceeded my expectations. “Rewind it Back,” the concluding chapter of the Windy City series, is nothing short of a masterpiece in my eyes. This second-chance sports romance encapsulates the essence of love and redemption, showcasing a narrative that is rich with emotional depth and tension. The journey of healing that unfolds is both poignant and at times heart-wrenching, yet I found myself captivated by every twist and turn. The story revolves around Hallie Hart, who, at the tender age of eleven, moved next door to the charming Rio DeLucas. Their friendship blossomed into a youthful romance, only to be shattered when they were nineteen, leaving both with broken hearts. Fast forward six years, fate intervenes as Hallie unknowingly becomes Rio’s new neighbor, hired to renovate his home. This unexpected reunion forces them to confront the lingering pain, regrets, and sacrifices of their past, making for a compelling narrative that resonates deeply with anyone who has ever loved and lost.

The depth of my emotional turmoil over this book is almost unbearable; it captivated me with such fervor that I felt utterly dismantled, only to be painstakingly reassembled from the remnants of my own heart. The experience was both raw and poignant, leaving me in a state of awe that is rarely evoked by literature. It has been ages since I encountered a love story that resonated with such intensity and authenticity, one that penetrated the very core of my being. Liz Tomforde has not merely elevated the standards of sports romance; she has obliterated them, masterfully redefining the possibilities within this genre and crafting a narrative that lingers long after the final page is turned.

Hallie Hart:

“I don’t like the term ‘settling down.’ I didn’t settle for anything. I simply stopped running when the two best boys I know caught me.”

Hallie Hart embodies a captivating blend of qualities that render her truly exceptional. As a designer, she possesses an unwavering determination, often displaying a stubborn streak that fuels her creative vision. Yet, beneath this resolute exterior lies a tender spirit, one that radiates warmth and generosity. Hallie is the type of person who finds joy in giving rather than receiving; on her own birthday, she would prefer to surprise someone special with a thoughtfully curated mixtape, filled with cherished memories they can enjoy together. My admiration for her runs deep, particularly for her remarkable strength. During her teenage years, she faced formidable challenges that tested her resilience, and although the experience cost her a significant relationship, she navigated it with a quiet grace that is nothing short of admirable. Hallie’s ability to shoulder her burdens alone, without revealing the weight she carries, is inspiring in itself. However, what truly resonates with me is her journey toward understanding the importance of accepting help during trying times. Her realization that leaning on others for support is not a sign of weakness, but rather a testament to her strength, showcases her growth and the depth of her character.

Rio DeLuca:

“Hallie, you’re in here.” I tap my chest. “Regardless of the years we spent apart, you’re still in here.”
“Are you sure that’s not just a first-love thing?”
“No, baby. It’s a last-love thing.”

Rio DeLuca, my darling, my affection for you has only deepened over time. When I say this man embodies the ultimate green flag, I mean it wholeheartedly. He transcends the image of a charming, goofy professional hockey player that we have all come to adore. His devotion to his mother reveals a tender side, showcasing him as a true mama’s boy in the most endearing way possible. Rio is not just caring and patient; he possesses a kindness that radiates warmth, complemented by a delightful sense of humor. The way he held onto his beliefs and values for six long years speaks volumes about his character and the depth of his love. His unwavering commitment to what he knows to be true love—his one and only love—is nothing short of admirable. He embodies the essence of a perfect, sweet golden retriever, openly displaying his emotions, yet he possesses a playful edge with a cheeky sense of humor. The moments when he affectionately calls her “love” and “baby” leave me utterly enchanted. Truly, he is the complete package, a remarkable blend of charm, loyalty, and heart.
“I wish I’d never met you.”
“I’ll meet you over and over again if I have to.”

Hallie and Rio share a tumultuous history marked by mutual pain and heartache, each bearing the scars of their past transgressions. Despite the grudges they hold and the secrets that linger between them, their love has endured the test of time, remaining steadfast even after six long years apart. In their journey toward healing, they chose to rebuild their connection through friendship, allowing the passage of time to mend their fractured hearts. This process, while fraught with tension and complexity, revealed that the love they once cherished had never truly faded. Their patience and understanding for one another were beautifully complemented by the gentle nudges they provided, encouraging forgiveness not only of each other but also of themselves. The authenticity of their love is palpable, oscillating between raw intensity and tender moments, igniting a fire that leaps off the pages. The chemistry they share is undeniable, a magnetic force that has been present since their first encounter. Their interactions evoke a whirlwind of emotions, from laughter to tears, as they navigate the highs and lows of their rekindled relationship. It is a joy to witness their undeniable compatibility, a testament to the fact that they are, indeed, meant to be together.

“Well, I know that technically, these are your best memories, but they’re mine too. Meeting on that roof, listening to music. Getting the opportunity to fall in love with you is my best memory, and all I can do is hope that one day you’ll let me do it again.”

The notion of found family holds a profound significance in my heart, and this series beautifully captures one of my all-time favorites. The characters’ heartfelt embrace of Hallie, as they seamlessly weave her into the fabric of their intimate circle, fills me with an overwhelming sense of joy and warmth. Their steadfast support for one another, their unwavering readiness to stand by each other in times of need, and their ability to share moments of laughter and light-hardheartedness truly embody the essence of true friendship. This group represents the quintessential chosen family, a bond crafted through love and mutual respect that transcends the boundaries of mere companionship. I often find myself yearning to be welcomed into their fold, as they have come to feel like my own kin. The scenes that showcase their camaraderie are nothing short of enchanting, and I will undoubtedly miss the delightful interactions and the unique dynamic that they share, which has left an indelible mark on my heart.

The Windy City series transcends the boundaries of a mere sports romance, offering a profound exploration of human connections that lingers long after the final page is turned. This narrative gently yet powerfully evokes the complexities of carrying the memories of those we love, even when they are no longer present in our lives. It delves into the essence of forgiveness, illustrating the strength it takes to embrace love again, despite the scars left by past heartbreaks. The story poignantly captures the idea that some souls are destined to reunite, no matter how many years and trials separate them. After six tumultuous years apart, the characters’ journeys remind us that true love can endure, evolve, and ultimately find its way back home, resonating deeply with anyone who has ever experienced the bittersweet nature of longing and reconciliation.
“But you’re not just a part of my life. You’re the center of it. So, if something isn’t fitting around us, that piece needs to change, not you.”

This book captivated me in ways I never anticipated, and while I am overwhelmed with joy for Rio finally achieving his long-deserved happy ending, I cannot help but feel an immense sadness that this journey has come to a close. The epilogue, in particular, was a rollercoaster of emotions, evoking tears during both the joyous and poignant moments that unfolded. The conclusion, though tinged with bittersweetness, was executed with such finesse that it provided a sense of closure I could only dream of, bringing the narrative full circle in a manner that felt utterly satisfying. As I reflect on this series, I find myself grappling with the reality of its end, knowing that it has etched itself into my heart as one of my all-time favorites. The emotional resonance of this story will linger with me for the foreseeable future, leaving me in a state of wistful longing for the characters and the world I have come to cherish so deeply.
