5000 stars.
I’m speechless. I mean, I’m violently sobbing right now, but I’m speechless.
This series is and always will be so incredibly special to me. I read Mile High for the first time what feels like forever ago when it was being uploaded to Wattpad chapter by chapter. So to be writing this review, finishing the last book in this little world, is so hard for me to accept and come to terms with.
Getting to experience Liz’s writing change over all of that time has been an incredible privilege, and one I will never take for granted. When I met Zanders in the selfish duet, I was 18 years old and starting college, and now I’ve graduated. In a way, these books have carried parts of me through that experience. Saying goodbye to them is really tough.
Moving on to this book itself, I couldn’t imagine a better story for Rio. From the moment we met him, I think we all knew how GOOD of a person he was, especially when we got to see him really open up with Indy in The Right Move. Finally getting inside of his head was so fun and made me love him even more.
Typically, FMC’s can go either way for me, but Hallie was fantastic. She was written in a way that felt soooo real, and I love that she and Rio both carried their own burden with their childhood breakup. I know that sounds weird, but I feel like in every second chance romance, only one of the main characters experiences this, so it was refreshing to have that change here.
It goes without saying that the inclusion of Stevie, Zanders, Indy, Ryan, Miller, Kai, Kennedy, and Isaiah felt perfect. They were in the story enough that you didn’t have the chance to miss them, but they were also evenly in the background so that their presence wouldn’t take over Rio and Hallie’s story.
Some people hate romances over 300-350 pages, but this one wouldn’t have felt complete if it wasn’t for the amount of words Liz put into it. A complicated childhood friends to lovers to enemies to friends(?) to lovers again can be a LOT to fit into one story. Personally, I loved the pacing here and how the flashback chapters were close enough and input where needed to make sense, but far enough apart that you didn’t feel like it was taking you away from the present timeline.
All in all, I loved this book so much. Not only this book but this series and these characters as a whole (yes, Logan, Eli, Marc, and Ali included…obviously)

“But you’re not just a part of my life. You’re the center of it. So, if something isn’t fitting around us, that piece needs to change — not you.”
Rio Deluca. That's all.

I have loved Rio throughout this series and I liked Hallie as well. I enjoyed the story and the flashbacks to how they met and fell in love. We don’t find out the whole story of why they break up till the end but they navigate it pretty well. The breakup plot is based on them being young but is heavy on lack of communication between them. Hallie had a rough life after the break up and starts off holding on to her anger longer than Rio. They are so used to being together that they find themselves falling into their old friendship and that’s how they grow. This is a slow burn for the spice but the chemistry is there from the beginning.
