Danielle and I ended up spinning a wheel for an April buddy read, and this is the book that we landed on. To say I was excited is an understatement! I've wanted this book for a while, but it was hard to justify the price to myself as I've already been picking up a lot of books recently. As I'm trying to read from my physical TBR and not just add to it, an expensive book wasn't the top of my priority list.

I am SO GLAD that we went ahead and read this book. It emotionally destroyed me (I cried non-stop for 30 minutes after a certain scene). It's BEAUTIFULLY illustrated. The characters are well flushed out, the world is amazing, and the adventure is one that I would have loved to go on myself (minus the dark parts, of course!).

While I wish I could have given this book a full 5 stars (it's written well enough that it deserves it), I couldn't bring myself to do it. A book that got me to sob deserves top accolades. However, I was a little disappointed by the ending. There were so many threads and red herrings throughout the story that led me to believe it would go one way. While it's not bad to be shocked by an ending, instead of shocked I felt myself more disappointed with the route the ending took. Because of that, I couldn't give the book the full 5 stars - just 4 with an (*) asterisk stating that this is a beautifully written book.
