Inked Armor

Inked Armor, picks up a little bit after where Clipped Wings, ended. Tenley, is her hometown, trying to get things taken care of, because of the jerk Trey! Tenley, finally puts Trey, in his place! FINALLY!

Poor Hayden! I feel so bad for him. I would be upset with Tenley too, if she just up and left, without any explanation. And, she was in contact with everyone else, except for Hayden! That was wrong! She should have called Hayden, or at least picked up when he called! I would have told Hayden to come with me, because there is no way I would trust Trey.

When Tenley, finally comes back home, things between her and Hayden are not the same(of course, it wouldn't be the same). I do love that they both want to work on themselves, but not alone, but together. Ink Armor, was a book, to show more of Hayden, and what he is going through. Something not sitting right, about his parent's murder.

Even though, Tenley was irritating at some spots, I LOVED this book! Who knew tattoos and cupcakes could be so sexy together! ;)

I loved the conclusion to Hayden and Tenley's story! This is one of the best series I've read so far this year.

This is a hard review to write but I mean that in a positive way because it made me feel so much and it’s hard to convey everything I got out of it. In my notes I used so many different words to describe what I was reading and and my feelings: intensity, anxiety, turmoil, heartbreaking, healing, hotness, chemistry, justice, closure... the list goes on and on.

These complex and scarred characters have so much going on, the details laid out about their lives is pretty incredible and intense. Watching them go through all they did, finding comfort and healing in one another was an emotional roller coaster and it was a heck of a ride. I adore Hayden and Tenley so much!

In the beginning I was pretty angry with Tenley and I felt so badly for Hayden. Once again, I was pulled into their lives and what they were going through. Building trust, opening themselves up, being vulnerable and honest while dealing with horrific pasts. I had to know the outcome and couldn't read fast enough. I was so extremely happy with the overall story and conclusion. I love that nothing felt predictable and that there were surprises along the way.

Just like Clipped Wings this book was extremely hot and has lots of sexy times but it felt a bit different to me because their relationship had grown and evolved. It wasn't just about sex but about a deeper connection the main characters had and I think that was really conveyed.

I really enjoyed all the secondary characters in the story and learning even more about them. I’m anxious for Chris and Sarah’s story next in Cracks in the Armor. Officer Cross had me completely stressing out, I did not like him at all (he kind of made my skin crawl). The professor and Sienna were well written bad guys, they provided just the right amount of drama.

It's hard to say much more without spoiling anything but I was truly touched by this book. I love a story that makes me really FEEL and messes with my head and I definitely got that. I had a book hangover for days! Incredible book and series. I loved it and highly recommend it.

So deep and beautiful

I have read plenty of Huntings books and usually they are just funny and sweet... this one is funny and sweet but is also full of the feels...

***4.5 STARS***

“I missed our physical connection. I missed the way he tasted, the feel of his skin, the endless lines of ink covering his body. I wanted him back—but I needed to be worthy of him first.”

When I read Clipped Wings, Hayden & Tenley cemented a special place in my heart. And when I finished reading Inked Armor that place was solidified. At the end of Clipped Wings we are left with a bit of a cliffhanger, so like always, I was a little worried with how the outcome would be in Inked Armor. Plus I couldn’t wait to get back to Hayden and his sweet ways! I just knew that no matter what happened that he would be just as perfect as he was before, and I wasn’t disappointed.

“I was so fucking empty without you. I’m so empty.”

From the very beginning your heart will feel for Hayden, he’s so profoundly lost without Tenley that you can’t help but ache with him throughout the beginning of the book. And when the connection does come it’s one of uncertainty and pain. He wants her so badly, but he can’t quite come to terms with the fact that she left him in the first place. What he doesn’t realize is that she is going through the same withdrawals from him although he would never know this with the way Tenley blatantly avoided him. She has her reasons, but even I was a little perturbed with her at this point. Like sheesh girl, at least pick up the phone--let him know you care about him a little! It was just hard watching sweet sexy Hayden go through that crap!

“It’s always the same dream. I can’t get to you in time and then you’re gone, and there’s nothing I can do to stop the emptiness.”

This story moved a bit slower for me than Clipped Wings, but I honestly didn’t mind that. I actually found it to be cohesive and in stride with how this situation would play out in real life. I knew that once Tenley & Hayden got their crap together that it wouldn’t be instant rainbows and unicorns, and that Hayden would harbor a lot of reluctance towards Tenley for breaking him the way she did. Their connection was obviously there, and the flame between them was still super hot but it was definitely a slow progression to get them where they needed to be. Helena’s writing is smart and witty, and her characters are loveable and cute so I didn’t mind the shift in tempo one bit. And can I just say how much I love the crap that comes out of Hayden’s mouth! Stuff like this:

“I’m going to make you come so hard, so many times; the only thing you’ll be able to think about is what it will be like when I’m finally inside you again.”

“I’m having a conversation with my kitty.”

(NOT the actual cat)

Going through this little journey you’re constantly worried that something is going to blow up in your face, because at certain points it seems like it’s almost going too good for Hayden & Tenley. Even though there is a serious undertone that it’s not ok, hence the “blow up” scared part! Does that make any sense? Kind of like in a real relationship when you get back together with someone and it feels so right yet your afraid the whole time what the other person is feeling isn’t the same as what you’re feeling, THAT is this book! I knew what they were feeling but I’m not sure they knew that about each other, and to me that’s what makes a good book, or at least that is what made this book good. You really get a sense of normality with these two characters, and I just love them, both of them. As usual, you have the same witty banter between these two, and their cute little cat “TK” is back, and just as adorable as you could imagine. Or maybe it’s Hayden who is adorable because of how he is with TK, yeah, probably the latter.

“It’s okay, little buddy, that’s your mom. She went on a trip, but she’s back now.”

So basically this book had a totally different vibe than the first book, and I really appreciated that. I love when I can read about someone’s story and have it feel like it’s a part of my story as well. Some books and character’s are just really special to me and this book and these characters are a part of that. I really- REALLY love this series, and I would recommend it to anyone!

“Hayden, you are everything I could ever want. You are the place I want to be.”

“It’s not just about wanting you. It’s this fucking need. No matter what I do, how close I get, it’s like I’m consumed by it.”

Not quite as good as the first installment, but still great.

Tenley and Hayden are perhaps the most damaged couple I have ever read about. Their road to redemption, love, and healing is heart wrenching, frustrating, and amazingly hot.

I am eagerly going to snatch up the novellas and read them first thing!

I will be looking for more from Helena Hunting, that's for sure.

Definitely pick this series (duology?) up if you are looking for a super hot romance with a bad boy.

I received a free copy from Netgalley. Many thanks!

Received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you! This sequel was so much better than the first book in the series. I liked watching Tenley and Hayden take the time to get to know each other and actually work their problems out using words instead of passive aggressive BS. I mean don't get me wrong, of course there is still a certain amount of that there or it wouldn't be in the genre but I felt that this book was much more "real life" than the previous. Definitely renewed my faith in the author.

Inked Armor is the second book in the Clipped Wings series. It continues with the story of Hayden and Tenley. It is about 3 week since the ending of Clipped Wings. Tenley is still home and Hayden is not doing well without her. When Tenley comes back they have to work through the new pain from when she left. Tenley is starting to deal with her guilt and Hayden has to learn to trust her again. He also has to finally deal with his parents and get the answers he never got.

Inked Armor focuses more on Hayden and his past than Tenley’s. He deals with more memories of his parents’ death coming back. Tenley, although still dealing with her past, was very sweet and supportive of Hayden. Her development as a character was really nice. I’m glad that she was in a good place with plans to continue in that direction. She was even planning to go to a support group.

Hayden grew as well, we just don't see it as much. I think that was one of my issues with this book. There is a lot of the same at the beginning half of the book. In the last fourth of the book is where most of the development happened. I wish we got to see more of that with Hayden. I just wanted more. There wasn't enough.

The other issue I had was too much sex. I don't really care if a book has no sex, a little sex, or a lot of sex, as long as it doesn't take away from the story. Inked Armor isn't necessarily worse because of all the sex. There were just other things that Hayden and Tenley had to work through. They could still have had as much sex without focusing on that but on other aspects. Another small issue is that Tenley’s tattoo was this theme for the book and it fell by the wayside for most of the book. That is just nitpicking but that theme could have been incorporated more in this book.

Overall, I enjoyed this book like the first one. I wish that it was longer because it ended too quickly. Maybe a little novella after the third book to see where they are. I wish it wasn't over and I’m not sure if I will read the third book yet but I want more Tenley and Hayden.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story of Tenley and Hayden working through their traumatic pasts to come together! It was a little frustrating that for book 1 and almost all of book 2, they were solely relying on each other and their sexual encounters to forget about their pasts instead of working them out. But I'm glad that they were shown to have worked on themselves individually while they were also navigating their relationship with each other.
