This series just grabbed me and didn't let go.

I can't help but feel disappointed by Inked Armour. I really enjoyed Clipped Wings, the first book in this series, so when I saw this second book up for grabs in NetGalley, I was pumped! I was so excited to start it, and then very let down once I was into it. I don't know if I just wasn't in the right mood to enjoy this story, or what the deal was, but ultimately I found myself increasingly annoyed while reading this.

I swear if either Tenly or Hayden had one more breakdown, I was going to loose my cool. Enough is enough already. I wasn't expecting no problems from them, considering how "damaged" they came off in the first book....but I was not prepared for Inked Armour to be busting at the seems with over the top drama. It ruined a lot of my enjoyment in reading this book.

I was glad to see Tenly and Hayden not keeping anymore secrets, I thought that was a nice development. But I don't know that there was much more positive than that. I felt like most of the healing that we saw with both Tenly and Hayden was kind of vague and unrealistic. One therapy session seemed to work wonders for Hayden, as did hiding the things that he was so proud of that set him apart from everyone else. And Tenly just seemed to come back home, emotionally, exponentially ahead from where she was the last time we saw her. It just didn't feel real to me. I also would have liked to see the deal with Hayden's parents be more of a surprise, it was rather obvious to me. And was anyone shocked at how well Hayden appeared to handle that information?? He freaked out through this whole book thinking about this situation, and then when he figures it all out he was more composed than I had ever seen him be. WTF??

I think I might need to take a slight break from the NA/romance books. I desperately need a great fantasy or maybe horror book to read next. Just something different. I don't know that I have the patients to suffer anymore emotionally stunted cry babies and their extreme outbursts right now.

This book was provided to me by Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

It's hard to review this book on it's own because I never really thought of it as a sequel, and maybe that has something to so with how sequels are usually written, but this and [b:Clipped Wings|18344534|Clipped Wings (Clipped Wings, #1)|Helena Hunting|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1384891519s/18344534.jpg|25940690] are really one story. Maybe that's just because that's how I read it originally and it has stuck that way in my mind due to many, many re-readings.

This book was amazing though and I absolutely adored it. The development of their relationship is amazing and the growth of these characters is so polished and well executed. My one big niggle is that the Trey storyline did feel like it was just left open.

I'm not really sure what else to say about this other than that it left me hugely satisfied. It's the only way to describe how this book left me feeling and that, I feel, is one of the best compliments I can give this book. I'll probably read the 2 "Cracks" novellas about Chris but honestly more just to support this author in the hopes that she will publish more stories than because of an interest in the character but they'll be further down the track.

This is a story that I've loved for a long time and I'm glad that it has gotten the polish to make it into what it is today. I will go back and read this again and I already can't wait.

This was an enjoyable conclusion to Hayden and Tenley's story. Their different traumatic experiences are difficult to navigate and their separation seems sensible at times. Hayden's experiences take more prominence in this book and it is interesting seeing him journey through revisiting this. They both seem to think that sex is the answer to brushing everything under the carpet and I found this slightly annoying but overall a good story.

While this duology (Clipped Wings is first and Inked Armor picks up right where it left off) is probably not everyone's cup of tea, I LOVED it.

Inked Armor continues the story of Tenley and Hayden, two young people trying to learn to love again after life changing traumatic events. The book is full of drama (LOTS of drama) and emotions and ups and downs, but it's such an engaging read. I read in a single day! I love both Tenley and Hayden as characters and really enjoyed how their stories wrapped up.

If you're looking for an awesome New Adult romance that's intense and passionate, definitely read this!

This has become a favorite duology of mine.

What I loved about this series:

Portrayal of trauma: this is a story of two people who are broken in similar ways but also not. It’s a story of how they differently dealt with the pretty traumatic pasts and finding ways to let the other in while making peace with themselves. It was so real and emotionally riveting to read through their journey. We get complex and even relatable characters. Every time one of them does something infuriating there’s a reason behind it. It wasn’t just nonsensical moments of tension but rather carefully crafted events and behavior to give us windows into how they processed their grief and pain.

Steamy scenes: I never found any of the sex scenes extraneous. Granted I’m not one to complain about sex scenes especially in a romance. They were well written, realistic (well....mostly) and not cringey

Casts of supporting characters: I loved the group of family/friends they built for themselves. Everyone was messy in their own way and while they certainly teased each other and called each other on their bullshit, Lisa, Jamie,Sarah, Chris, Cassie and Nate plus Tenley and Hayden also all offered tenderness, and support. They stood by each other without judgment but weren’t afraid to speak up and made sure the other got the help they needed. They were all misfit in ways (perhaps not Nate and Cassie) and they all grew together despite the story being centered around Tenley and Hayden.

Chemistry: I think Hunting did a beautiful job in writing two people who truly loved and needed each other. The chemistry was so real on page you couldn’t help but root for them.

This isn’t a plot heavy book. Because it was the characters healing that took the forefront.

Reseña primer libro: Publicado originalmente: Clipped Wings

I was wrong.

3 stars. Nowhere near as entertaining as the first book. This one was so dramatic and all of the drama seemed in seemed inconsequential even though it was so hyped up in the first book. Everything was resolved quickly and easily in the beginning so the rest of this book is just unnecessary relationship woes.

Hayden was the biggest baby with all of temper tantrums. I liked him in the first book but he got on my last nerves in this one. Tenley was great. I really like her character so I have no complaints about her. I was expecting something better than this but I will say that I love Hunting's writing and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books.

Let me just start off by saying I love love love Hayden. The characters will always be the strongest part of the book for me in this series. I do wish, however, that this book had been a bit longer and shown more of the story after the resolution of the central problem the characters faced. Overall though it was a solid and highly enjoyable read.
