I didn't know this was a sequel when I started it, as the synopsis doesn't mention it. It made things very confusing as I tried to understand what was happening and who all these characters were. The story was not bad, but I was struggling so much to figure out who everyone was and how they related to each other that all the emotional beats fell flat...it didn't really bother me that Ben may or may not have been betraying Rachel, because I had no investment in their relationship.

If you've read the first one, this is probably a fantastic read. If not, don't start with this one.

Thanks to netgalley and Hachette for allowing me to read it.

I did don’t realise this was a sequel when I requested but it in no way affected my enjoyment of the story. It was a great summer romantic read, a lovely YA offering, very funny and perfect for any age

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

“I know what it’s like to exist between two worlds, never belonging in either. Not black or white but the grey between. It’s lonely at times, living in that shadow.” (p. 297)

Firstly a huge thank you to the publisher for sending me the sequel to Arrowheart because I’ve been dying to read the follow-up since finishing the first book in the Love Curse series.

I bloody loved it. What a ride. Oh man, this is gonna be a spoiler-free review so I’m gonna have to dance around plot points here but there were so many major moments and twists that Heartstruck really ramped up the stakes from the first book, making me worry about those characters I love, and also question my feelings about them! The character development is fantastic, revealing sides of them I could never have believed if the writing wasn’t as good as it was - but twists made sense and served a huge purpose to the story.

I love Rachel, our heroine, and how involved she is with her family. We get crucial family moments that reveal both her vulnerability and strength and it’s wonderful to see this familial dynamic. I also have a big thing for Kyle, Rachel’s cousin, cause he sleeps in just his boxers AND he’s gay so it’s obvious we are meant to be. Pretty sure I could hear him calling out my name in his sleep. The subtext was there. I also love what Rebecca Sky does with Ben in this book, no spoilers but you really do have to keep your wits about you if you ship Rachel and Ben like I do.

All in all, 5 star read and a fantastic book to read this summer along with the first book. I had such a fun time reading this, it’s a huge rollercoaster of emotions and I am waiting so anxiously for more in this rich world. I loved this so. Damn. Much.
