I had to read that book for a school project and later I have to make a presentation about the relationship between Hanna and Michael. Everyone in classes above me told me that this book is really boring and stupid. And yes, it did make me refuse to read it however it wasn’t as bad as everyone said. At the beginning I didn’t exactly knew what it is going to be about and everyone said it’s just too sexual. I liked that the book was divided into parts of different ages of the characters and their story. I especially liked the second part and the process. I give it only two stars as I’m not the biggest fan of such topics and I thought that such a big age gap was unnecessary.
A good ending but not as shocking a story as I was expecting.
This was unexpected but I did enjoy it. It’s a little slow but worth continuing. I have not seen the movie but think this would translate well.
This book was mediocre at best. I was excited because I saw it was on Oprah’s book club and thought to myself “this must be something great” so I opened the cover and read the first line “when I was 15 I got hepatitis” I was sold. That one line intrigued me and I bought it. It took me less than a week to read and I can honestly say it was a push and struggle the entire time. It was bland. The characters weren’t built up enough for me to care about them. The whole premise behind following him from 15 to well into adult life and the intertwining of Hanna throughout the whole thing just seemed like more of a reach after awhile than a story. I LOVE reading about the Holocaust and still Part 2 of the book was a struggle to read. Maybe it was the translation to English that got me lost in the sauce but I don’t know. Wasn’t a great book overall to me. Only part that shocked me was when Hanna died and even then I was confused. Part 2 and 3 just seemed like some poor me BS. Everything went back to him being basically emotionless because of Ana... that was the basis of his adult life. I don’t recommend to be completely honest unless you eat Brand Flakes cereal... then you probably enjoy bland things and would want to take a stab at this.

An intense storyline that grapples with questions of morality and grief. Overall though it didn't get interesting until the very end. Has a (potentially) shocking ending.
Despite the heavy subject matter and themes of this book, it is very readable. It is intense but I found it difficult to put down. It really got inside my head and raised a lot of ethical questions.
Would it make sense for me to say I loved the story but that it also moved too slowly? It was beautiful and heart-wrenching and also very, very wordy and too “thoughtful” at times. Recommended for people who like drama and World War II historical fiction.
