I read this book both in German and English for my German A-Level and I really enjoyed studying it because I've never read a book like it. I would recommend reading this, especially if you have an interest in German or in German history.

I listened to this book on a drive to the east coast, so it's hard to tell whether that has affected my perception of the novel, but I had trouble really getting interested in it. If I had something else to listen to, then I probably would have switched over to something else. The truth is, I really wanted to like the book more than I actually did. It's a beautiful book, but pretty slow. The "surprising truth" had been spoiled for me due to various movie reviews and honestly, the author wasn't really *that* subtle, either.
