Scarlet needs a new job. She's one of the horsemen. That's not a plot give... it's the story line. But it's a good start to a series, and a new-to-me-author. I'm interested enough in the characters that I want so more. This story was just "eh" for me though. The main characters didn't have enough BANG for me. Something was missing.

The majority of us have heard of the Horseman of the Apocalypse, but did you know their names were Bianca, Kat, Cloris and Scarlet. Living on earth they are off living their own lives and as along as the seals are unbroken they do not have to be called into action.
This story resolves around Scarlet(War). Married to Tyr, son of Odin, after 3 years apart he has finally found her. With Hel the new God of the Underworld starting to pull her weight around, their lives may have just got complicated.
When I started this book I wanted to know what had gone on to make them come to earth and was hoping to find this throughout the story. Whilst this was not revealed, the story about Hades was told. Whilst I know a bit about mythology, I did get a bit confused with the different deities as there were a crossover with Norse and Greek. This story was slow paced but did pick up when they went to the Underworld and you got to know some of their powers. There were a few comedy moments mainly down to Bianca and when all four of them were together their friendship felt genuine. I will carry on this series as I want to know if Hel gets her comeuppance

It was good enough. Nothing that made me go crazy and read all the books in the series. Not saying it was bad, or maybe it's just me. All the PNR books seem to be the same old same old but new characters!! Sigh!!

Okay folks first full disclosure, I'm friendly with the author. We talk non-book stuff and in the past hung out at various events. She's awesome and before being an author was a book blogger I admired. This in no way influenced my rating.

Previous to this book I've had 2ish brushes with the Four Horsemen. In Highlander, with my one time all consuming crush Methos, Charmed where Apocalypse = Capitalism (no seriously it did) and in a Vertigo comic series I remember vaguely only because it had nudity and I read it at like 13. I barely have religious understanding of them.

Corwin's take humanizes (ahahaha you have no idea how funny that is considering the main character's intro) them while running them through the cosmic ringer. Fate, life, love...at the end of the day (end of times?) none of that matters if you refuse to speak up and do what needs to be done. Watch as they learn the hard way!
