I hate read this book… it was my choice for book club this month so I felt obligated to finish it. But boy did I not enjoy this book. I definitely seem to be in the minority, so I’m glad it’s working for most people.

I saw the main “twist” from the first 50pgs. I did not appreciate people thinking with their sex drive rather than their brain. The ending was so convoluted & unrealistic. I have so many tabs throughout the entire book noting things that make no sense (to me).

I dunno… I’m sad it didn’t work for me because so many people love it.

Oh damm. Oh DAMM. OH DAMM. This is awesome. Millie is an ex-con looking for a new job after she was fired from her last job. Nina Winchester is looking for a housekeeper to help cook and clean but, also look after her daughter Cecelia occasionally. As Millie spends more and more time in the house she realizes that the perfect Winchesters aren't so perfect. This book is the perfect mix of slow burn and engaging. The plot unfolds at a nice pace but leaves a lot for the ending climax. My only real issue with this is a level of predictability. Not sure if its my Criminal Minds addiction or what but, The first few chapters of character description and background told me all I needed to know.

Read in one day. Good premise and kept me interested. Was unsure about how the book was split up.

The Housemaid (The Housemaid Book 1)
Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was the first thriller I have read in quite a while, and I genuinely feel like it was the perfect reintroduction to the genre. It was a fast paced, edge of your seat read. I won't say too much because I don't want to give any spoilers, but this book had me trying to figure out how it was going to end the whole time. It had so many reveals, twists, and turns that I was constantly thinking of different scenarios and avenues the plot could take, as well as possible outcomes/ending to the novel. I did find some of the plot a smidgen predictable, but it was still extremely enjoyable. I found the ending to be the perfect set-up to book 2, which I will absolutely be reading! If you are looking for an easy mystery/thriller this is it!

Heard a lot of good things about this book, so I finally decided to read it. It did not disappoint! McFadden's writing style is incredible. Just when you think you have an idea what's gonna happen, another plot twist gets thrown at you.

The characters + their backstories are all so complex, and it's so interesting to things unfold throughout the book.

Can't wait to read more of her works!

This book was fine. I can see why it's popular, but it's not really for me. I figured out several of the twists early on and I kept reading to see if I was correct. Personally, I thought the book was boring in several places when I think it was supposed to be suspenseful and some level of exciting, and what I assume were supposed to "the big reveals" didn't really phase me since I had it figured out.

The Housemaid is a hard book for me to review. At it's heart, it's a "Gone Girl" style mystery/revenge book and I don't have much to say on those types of books. Yet, I'll still give it a try.
The Housemaid is mainly told from Millie's perspective, she's fresh out of the slammer and just got fired from bartending. She is desperate for a job after living in her car. Somehow she lands a fantastic job as a housemaid for the Winchester family. The family is stupid rich, but their house is in absolute disarray in more ways than one. Millie initially thinks she finds a friend in the Italian groundskeeper and he warns her of impending danger. Then Millie notices Nina beginning to exhibit some concerning signs of mental illness. Millie has some hard choices to make with her job and the safety of the Winchester family.
While I felt like this book was fairly predictable with some decent red herrings, I enjoyed the story. It's compelling enough in it's style and character development to keep me listening. The audiobook made it really easy. The different voices/accents were so much fun to listen to.
I love the very last part of the epilogue so much. What an interesting way to set up a series.
