“No matter what, I will wait for you on the other side of the fog.”

3.5 stars. I feel like I could have and should have enjoyed this series more. Which is a weird way to start off a review for a book and overall series that I DID really like, but I don't know, somewhere in the back of my mind I keep thinking that this had the potential to be even better for me, and that I should have enjoyed it more. I picked it up because I was in the mood for something more along the romantic suspense line, and it did deliver on that. The mystery wasn't predictable, there were twists and turns, lots of questions about loyalties and allegiances, and quite a few action scenes. Ironically, I feel like I spaced out the most during the action scenes? IDK. I won't say too much about this plot since this is the third book, but I will say that both the plot and the romance got a good amount of page time, and things end in a really satisfying place for the couple. It's one of those insta-lovey situations that doesn't really feel that way. Even though the three books only take place in the span of a few weeks, there are enough ups and down and harrowing situations and genuine connection that you really feel like Hawes and Dante have fought for and earned their happiness. Something about it didn't quite hit in all the right places, but I still had a good time.

Listened to the audiobook as read by Tristan James, and I'm sorry to say, but as the series went on, the less I liked his voice. The narration seemed a bit uneven; the voices that he used for the two main characters would change frequently, and at one point his voice for Hawes was so high and strange I had to rewind to make sure it was him talking. Ah well. Still not the worst. The end of this trilogy leaves things in a really interesting place for the family, and I'm suuuuuper excited to get into the Celia/Helena romance. I'll give the series a bit of a rest first, though.

Okay, yes. Hi. Hello. This is a new favorite series and I foresee many rereads in my future.
The plot tension was on point and I never wanted to stop reading. Love love love the Madigans so much. Chris and Hawes are the most adorable couple ever and I adore them. Can't wait to see what's in store for Helena and Holt!

Re-read: I. Love. This. Series. For real. I just...even knowing everything that was going to happen I just turned pages like my life depended on it. Love love love love.

this and all future re-reads: I unapologetically adore this series and could reread it forever, honestly.

Finally the conclusion to the trilogy with the major cliffhangers! Agent Perri and Hawes are back at it, trying to unravel the plot they've found themselves in due to a certain woman. We were given a clue at the end of the last book and I'm guessing many of you figured it out then too. Plenty more betrayals ahead in this one along with major confusion on who to trust. One big difference is that this book is dual POV so we get both Chris and Hawes thoughts. I felt it added to the chaos and emotions. Both men at certain times needed a rock and they became that to each other. When one started to fall the other carried them. Their reason for meeting may not have been conventional or all that hopeful for a new relationship, but you could see these two men building a foundation for a real shot at love. Their HFN/HEA ending was believable in terms of their romance.

Layla Reyne has mentions of not wanting to leave Fog City and I am hoping a certain twin, * ahem Holt!* , finds real love with a certain cop *cough* Kane in a future spin off.

Side note: I agree with Miss Reyne on the dedication. There is no more loveable an assassin than Ethan Blade.
