Cute little story. Turtle is sent to live with her mother's sister in Florida. She has to deal with annoying boys in the Diaper Gang, and she eventually grows to love the other people in her new little town.

I love good children's books, but this doesn't qualify. Th characters aren't well developed, and the story is rushed to a conclusions. The setting and time period is interesting, but it just wasn't executed well.

I read this book with my nine year old daughter and she loved it! She really liked the protagonist, Turtle, because shes "got some sass" and isnt intimidated by boys or adults. They year is 1935 (a time we know well from the Kit Kittridge stories) and Turtle is sent from New Jersey to Key West to live with cousins shes never met. The majority of the book is about her acclimating to her new life. It is a LOT of info about Key West history and culture, which might be boring but we found that the characters kept things interesting. Of course it helps that we live in South Florida and are a bit familiar with the Keys anyway. In the last few chapters there is an adventure that involves pirate treasure and a twist ending that my daughter was really shocked by. It is all based on really family stories from this time period.

I really enjoyed this book for young readers. The culture of key west is sprinkled all over its pages.

This was a really good book that I found to be very historically accurate. I read it for the #readathon but couldn't finish it then. Really love it and got all emotional towards the end. I highly recommend it!

The 1930's must be in vogue this year. I think there are at least a half-dozen MG books set in this time period. Holm does a nice job of creating a sense of voice and place with Turtle and the Key West. However the book almost seemed a little too short?! I got to the end and I was a little disappointed. It didn't feel as "wrapped up" as I would have liked it to be.

Quite delightful. Not deep or anything, but very lovely.
