4.5/5 stars. I really enjoyed this story! I’m a sucker for dramas like this, and it kept me entertained!
I generally like historical fiction but I wasn’t a fan of this one. It was a bit boring and predictable.
The grandson in the book is “too good”. There are plenty of ways others try to put him in bad light but he always comes out as better than before. This made the character flat. A single flaw in the character would have made him more likable.

The performance of this audiobook is spectacular. I'm fairly certain that reading this would have felt disappointing and rather anti-climatic, but listening to it was wonderful. It felt more like a radio play than a traditional novel, probably because it was originally serialized, and Juliet Stevenson truly PERFORMS, rather than reads.
A nice enough story with all ends neatly tied up. A little bit too neatly and saccharine. Unfortunately it does not possess the charm of Downton Abbey

Tweedehands krijgertje. Zelfde schrijver als Downton Abbey, dus altijd goed voor wat vinnige dialogen. Eenmaal aan het lezen bleek dat ik een tijdje terug de TV-verfilming al had gezien, maar dat drukte de pret slechts een kleine beetje...
