Was hoping to like this more than the first book, but instead it was a little meh. Still somewhat imaginative and definitely allegorical, just not...great. Characters remained flat to me, like it was a bit monotonous of an extension of book 1.

But still wholesome and boy-reader friendly.

Finishing the third one now in hopes the overall arc sort of comes together more.

I read the first book in the series two years ago. I only continued with this one because my 8 year old remembered it randomly a few weeks ago. It's definitely Christian fiction. It's based on the Armor of God and throw in some sci-fi.  I feel like some characters are relatable, but then I feel like the author tries too hard to make the kids relatable at the same time. The 10 year old didn't know what basic words meant and I felt it was a forced way for the other characters to explain concepts. Also, the cutting each other off exhausts me to read aloud. These kids are constantly interrupting each other and authority figures. I remember that was a dislike from the first book.  I feel like the character development is meant to happen over all four books so I'm hoping a couple are fleshed out by then. I am just truly torn on this book. I have others I would rather get to, but he is insisting on finishing the series.

I started this book sometime last year and I just couldn't get into it. :(
The characters were good and so was the plot. I enjoyed the first book so I'm not sure what happened here. Maybe I'll give it another go later on.
