Can't read Cheaper by the Dozen without following up with Belles on Their Toes. This book follows the Gilbreth family after their father's death, and is the story of their mother continuing to raise her children, and becoming a prominent figure in her own right. Love these stories of the older kids as they deal with beaux and changing fashions, and managing life without their beloved father, and watching their mother become the modern woman they knew she was. It's truly a gift to read this.

Ashtray Christmas--the best chapter. Laughed until I cried!

I enjoyed Cheaper by the Dozen, but I'm so glad that my round robin first reader included Belles on Their Toes in the package. Reading both back to back gave me a great perspective first on the father and then on the mother. I enjoyed Belles a bit more perhaps because I understood Mother better.

The sequel to “Cheaper by the Dozen”. The first book had more of a spotlight on the Father of this family bunch, while the second has more focus upon the Mother. I have to say I liked that about this. In the first book, I felt we didn’t get to know much about the mother. The sequel picks up right after the first book when the Father dies from a heart attack. Full of miscellaneous adventures. A mindless, fun, and entertaining read.

A fun sequel to Cheaper By the Dozen that had me laughing out loud. I liked seeing how the Gilbreth family pulled together and getting to know more of the personalities of the individual children, the mother, and Tom (the housekeeper), who was quite the character. A quick, lighthearted, wholesome read.

I have loved this book since since I was a kid. The stories are hilarious and heartwarming and fascinating. As a mom now, I read the book with new eyes regarding the partnership between the parents and the struggles of raising their family in the 1920’s. Reas the first, Cheaper by the Dozen, then this is the continuation of the story after the father dies when the youngest is 2 and the oldest has started college.

Delightful! I love spending time with the Gilbreth family. The laughter and warmth emanates through the book. And what fun the descriptions are of a different era. It’s a joy to read.

"Belles on Their Toes" is the sequel to "Cheaper By the Dozen". It's every bit as interesting, funny and wonderful as the first.
