A beautiful way to end the trilogy although gratuitously painful in the journey as is the way of Robin Hobb.

i'm so grateful for this series

I loved this book. My biggest problem with it is that now, it's over, and I am running out of Fitz books to read. It's been truly a long time since I've felt truly sad that a book is finished. Epic fantasy at its best!

This was a book of two halves for me. If I was going to rate each half of the book, I'd rate the first half 2 or 3 ⭐️ and the last half 4 or 5 ⭐️. I really can't tolerate Thick and his presence completely dulls Fitz. There was a chunk of the book that really bored me and Fitz is so boring when Thick is weighing him down. On the flipside, Nettle is fantastic and a new favourite character.

I really liked this one and I loved the reunions and all he interactions of Fitz and the Fool. That being said, some parts really dragged for me and the misery of the characters kind of made for a miserable reading experience at times. I loved the discussions of the effects of trauma and the emotional aspects in general. I can't wait to see how this story will continue.

update: decided to upgrade the few Fitz&Fool books that I didn't already give 5 stars to. I compared them to each other rather than to all books I read and if I'm being honest, nothing I have read in the last decade or so has captured my heart as much as Fitz & the Fool and the books surrounding those two and their supporting cast. Gave this one 4.5 stars originally, but who am I kidding?

The only thing I can say is Why not the Fool! Old loves are to be remembered and perhaps friendships to kindled. Oh well. I hope at some point we find out more about the lady in the gateway stream. And those are my ending thoughts.
