I’m not usually one for police thrillers, because at their heart they focus on the police. However, this story is written from the perspective of a psychiatrist (psychologist?) who finds himself at the center of a combination of world history in the making, anthropological history, folklore, and myth. The oppressive overtone of the incoming Nazi party weighs heavy over this procedural drama and instills a sense of urgency, and Judith, while slightly underdeveloped for most of the book, emerges as a smart, quick-thinking heroine.

Really disturbing, creepy and a great read for horror fans. Super enjoyable and narrator of the audiobook is excellent. Really upped the creep factor in the patient interviews. This book is set in Czechoslovakia at the beginning of the rise of the Nazi party though it's not the main story in the book, it's just there at the edges making everything feel more ominous, so if you're sensitive to the sort of bigotry towards Jewish people and Romani that the Nazis were into (the word 'gypsy' is used throughout) then maybe give it a miss. But it's a book about real life and supernatural evil so just be forewarned.

My goodness, can this man paint a picture! Step into the world of 1935 Czechoslavakia and follow along as we work to unravel the mystery of Leather Apron and the Devils Six.

Atmospheric and spooky, The Devil Aspect had me hooked from the very beginning. It may seem a bit daunting at over 400 pages, but the short chapters and alternating perspectives make this a jaw dropping page turner.

I could not be happier with the way each character is flushed out - the are beautifully human, and the portrayal of madness as a very human happening is refreshing. This is a perfectly gruesome police procedural/psychological thriller that will have you searching the recesses of your own mind for your devil.

The big twist is a bit predictable, but it does not in any way diminish the story. Strap in, grab a comfort item, and delve deep into the dark corners of humanity. It's worth the trip.
