This was exactly the right book at the right time. It's a Christmassy book, but not a jolly happy everything's great Christmas. And not a gritty, hard edge Christmas. It's about people who are sad, but hopeful, and isn't that what Christmas is about? Add a lovely setting in northern Scotland, Rosamunde Pilcher's finely-drawn characters, and plenty of descriptions of gorgeous Christmassy foods and snowy landscapes. Highly recommended.
