I loved The Shell Seekers but this book just didn’t really work for me. I think it’s just not for me as I can see how highly rated it is generally. I just found it too descriptive (about nothing interesting) and then each character had to repeat what happened in a letter or to someone else so I had to read it at least twice. The book could have been half as long without this repetition. And the main character was just gossipy and the storyline too obvious. I’m being generous with 3 stars as I liked some of the characters.

This was a delightful and charming way to end my reading for 2022. The characters are lovable and flawed, the setting is seasonal and festive, and the story is predictable in a perfectly wonderful way. I finished wanting more and I can't think of better praise for a book than that.

A character driven story that is perfect for winter reading. I enjoyed it as an audiobook, but it is long, nearly 20 hours.
