Things I loved: told from the perspective of ghosts in the cemetery. 
Quirky
Characters felt authentic
Things that I didn’t love: the rescue scene being almost an afterthought.
Some characters felt developed while others didn’t. 
The changes in narrative to the Dr Doolittle type character’s writings kept throwing me off. 

Overall, it was an enjoyable read.

I picked up this book because the author had a signing at my university. I was so deligted by how funny and interesting she was. The book reflects that. It's humorous, lovable, sweet, and exciting.

I laughed and cried along with the characters.  I loved that it was narrated by dead people in the cemetery.  Fantastic

Unlikely Animals is a wild book. It took me a bit to get to know and to like the characters. Once I did (20%), I settled in and trusted Annie Hartnett for the ride. Hartnett writes about life and death, family and community, failures and successes. I don’t usually like magical and definitely don’t care for magical elements, but the Starlings and their town made me laugh and cry. If you like quirky or want to expand, read this interesting and different novel.
