3.5 Excellent audiobook, the narration was perfect.
Trigger warning, Child abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse
The story was hard, kidnapped child, murder, years of torture, it was almost unbearable for me. I avoid these real life like stories, they break my heart and leave me with the blues. This one had a weird difference and creature/alien unknown element that gave the reality a break ? It was weird oddly placed in this story and I don't think it really fit. I don't think I've ever hated a character more than William. I had to listen till the end to see what happened to him. if there was ever justice. In the end I was left hanging, I needed a bit more closure.

Once again, a book makes me want to go camping. Although, I wouldn't read this book in the woods. Maybe desert camping.

This was a firecracker of a story. It gripped my from the first chapter and never let up. This was addictive in a very good way.

This is one of those rare cases where I think the story would’ve worked better for me in movie format, creature features aren’t always my thing on paper. Otherwise it is a decent read, some parts of the story were very engaging and horrifying to read about. I think the only part where it lost me was the aspect of this Bigfoot-like creature the reader is meant to be fearful of.

Surprised  I liked this because it follows a really basic plot line, but the character development was really interesting

My favorite booktuber steered me wrong on this one. This book is nothing like what is described. Not even scary. So disappointed.

I’m typically a reader of all things psychological thriller and recently branched out to some horror. I really liked this book a lot. It seemed a little strange at first to have a kidnapping and monster/demon in the same book. However, thinking back on some of my favourite horror movies (Split, 10 Cloverfield Lane etc.) this type of thing works. It reminds us that often it is people who can be the real monsters and even more frightening than the things that go bump in the night. It was a quick read and I couldn’t seem to put the book down. I think it could have been a five star read but it was just too heart wrenching for me. How many bad things can possibly happen in a row!? I also found the inner dialogue a little boring and repetitive at times. However, this is a very common problem I tend to encounter when reading horror and psychological thrillers. I hope this book gets adapted into a movie.
